Immediate opportunity is available in the Portland, Oregon metro area for a talented, motivated Senior Systems Engineer to design, develop and test a variety of products including Enhanced Vision Systems, Head-Up Guidance Systems, Helmet Mounted Display Systems, and innovative new display products geared toward the military and corporate jet markets. Our Systems Engineering team is responsible for overall vision system, head-up guidance and helmet display system requirement definition, including the definition of interfaces with other aircraft systems, the definition of desired functionality (including display formats and behaviors), and the verification and validation of the correct implementation of these defined characteristics, as well as LRU system definition and qualification. Systems Safety Engineers work under the direction of a Lead Systems Engineer on one or more development programs, and are involved in the preparation of system safety documents and processes.

Position will be located in Wilsonville, OR. Relocation assistance is available once we return to the site.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform civil safety assessment process in accordance with ARP4761, including but not limited to, Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSAs), System Safety Assessments (SSAs), Fault Tree Analysis (FTAs), Common Mode Analyses (CMAs), Systems Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (SFMEAs), and Detailed Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEAs)
  • Support systems, hardware, and software engineering teams in defining system safety requirements during development activity
  • Review of design and development documentation for safety critical equipment
  • Review analysis of peer safety engineers
  • Mentor and train less experienced safety engineers
  • Accountable to team members and organizational leadership for committed work and responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain expertise in assigned areas (program, function, process, technology, etc)
  • Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and organizational leaders to develop plans
  • Recognized technical expert in avionics safety

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and 5 years of prior relevant experience OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder
  • Must have experience with the full lifecycle systems engineering development process
  • Basic knowledge of ARP4761 and ARP4754A
  • Basic knowledge with the development of Avionics systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with CAFTA or similar Fault Tree analysis tools
  • Knowledge of aircraft or electronic systems
  • Basic knowledge in reliability engineering theory
  • Experience with JAMA requirements management software and Confluence tool
  • Experience with DOORs requirements management software
  • Understanding of the Civil Certification process
  • Understanding of the applicable CFRs and ACs for Part 25 aircraft
  • Basic knowledge of DO-178B/C, DO-254, and DO-160G
