The Design Assurance Center (DAC) is looking for an experienced system engineering professional who is interested in using their technical skills and experiences to improve Collins Aerospace design methods using data analysis and feedback to the design teams. This position is responsible for measuring design and development teams' performance, analyzing measurements across an enterprise to identify systemic trends, and processing data from development teams into actionable information to improve the quality of their designs.

This position requires the applicant to have a thorough understanding of and demonstrated experience in engineering design and development process and methods, industry standards and regulations, requirements analysis and capture, integration, test, and engineering documentation for certification.

Position will be located in Wilsonville, OR. Relocation assistance is available once we return to the site.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The use of technical/analytical skills to produce accurate and timely reports to aid senior level management in making business decisions.
  • Extracting data from necessary sources, analyzing data for accuracy, and identifying trends within the data.
  • Analyzing the design assurance assessments of development projects on an ongoing basis to determine enterprise trends.
  • Provide advice and insight about probable effects of alternative solutions to problems.
  • Use historic data to discern trends and generate statistically significant forecasting tools.
  • Create measures to ensure engineering efforts are performed effectively and align with Collins Aerospace and customer's quality expectations.
  • Provide lessons learned to new design teams to ensure quality issues seen in legacy products (both in factory and field) are eliminated in new designs.
  • Employ Quality-related tools such as Root Cause Analysis, Variation Reduction, Key Characteristics, etc. as appropriate. Analyze multiple project data sets for enterprise trends and systemic issues - recommend corrective actions.
  • Create weekly, monthly, and on demand reports distributed and interpreted for managers and team members within the DAC.
  • Provide data collection, analysis, and reporting to support individual design and development teams as required.
  • Engage other DAC Subject Matter Experts, as needed, to ensure appropriate DAC technical engagement

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) ) and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder
  • Must have experience in full life cycle systems engineering role
  • Working knowledge/demonstrated experience with application of ARP4754 or similar standard
  • Experience in establishing rapport across the organization, including leadership, engineering teams, shared service teams, and customers
  • Experience in assisting engineering project planning activities to ensure plans account for program requirements and past lessons learned
  • Use of objective measurements and audits to proactively determine the health of projects.
  • Experience in communication to project teams and leadership of design quality trends and systemic issues, and of working with others to investigate, determine root cause, and recommend corrective actions to deliver high quality designs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Quality experience in a prior role is preferred
  • Working knowledge and demonstrated application of DO-178.
  • Hands-on experience as a software engineer in support of avionics design & development project(s) is preferred.
