Job Description

Job Purpose:

This position is responsible for supporting the Packaging Research & Development team and deploying packaging work streams at their respective site(s). Including but not limited to trials, start-ups, and initiating work to identify and eliminate losses such as incoming material defects and minor stops related to material-machine interaction. This role provides technical support to for continuous improvement, process efficiency, and process standardization at full scale production sites. Additionally, this role will be responsible for implementing process improvement and COGS reduction though the use of root cause and statistical analysis tools. This role requires the ability to use and apply extensive knowledge in the packaging materials, design, process and equipment. Significant collaboration is expected with Quality, Supply, Engineering, and CVS teams.

What we are looking for:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related discipline OR Associates degree WITH at least 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment working in quality, food safety, engineering, or product/process development OR High School Diploma WITH 5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment working in quality, food safety, engineering, or product/process development
  • Strong passion to work in CPG within R&D
  • Multi-site working experience
  • Ability to travel 20% of the time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Food Process Engineering or related discipline.
  • Multi-site working experience
  • Demonstrated experience as a technical lead or accountable member of initiative roll outs, new innovation, and/or new equipment installation

Key Responsibilities:

  • To be a key contributor to our business growth objectives, the ongoing profitability of our brands & to develop technical expertise in the areas of process & pack deployment and continuous daily improvement.
  • Helping to define process conditions of existing technologies and materials, both commercialized and in-development
  • Helping to simplify and standardize the creation, capture and transfer of knowledge in the interface between the packaging team and the production facilities.
  • Be the site R&D liaison to ensure two way information flow of day-to-day data and enable the R&D testing and development work at the respective site(s).
  • Work with the packaging R&D teams on designing qualification protocols and testing requirements for existing and new technologies and material structures.
  • Align with the broader R&D teams on desired handover documentation and key information to ensure a seamless and successful handover process.
  • Utilizes modeling and simulation to deploy validated packaging formats across the network with minimal disruption to operations
  • Learning defined foundational processes for packaging development and deployment
  • Developing and leveraging internal and external networks
  • Managing deliverables of multiple projects simultaneously
  • Effectively communicating projects details and risk in appropriate forum to all levels of organization
  • Participate R&D at site FMOS meetings, daily product quality cuttings, and CI discussions.
  • Being a passionate, engaged and active member of team and function
  • Understanding impact on other functional areas to develop business acumen and enterprise thinking
  • Contribute to the pipeline of cost savings initiatives through continuous improvement, Do It Best & operational efficiency opportunities based on data trending & analysis from the sites.
