Job Description

The Sr. Director, Marketing Operations will lead Operations for all Marketing Customer Experience and Corporate Communications capabilities, reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer. Leading a team of approx. nine (9) professionals, this role will be responsible for:

  • Align all resources in CMO’s portfolio (budget, talent, vendors) with the team’s business objectives; this includes:
    • Work with Finance to manage a budget in the tens of millions
    • Prioritize open roles based on upcoming, business-driven needs
    • Anticipate capacity shortfalls by maintaining near- and long-range high-level work plans for the team (in collaboration with team’s leaders)
    • Develop and share a 52-week calendar of planned key activities
    • Work with Procurement and other teams to onboard new vendors and oversee third-party relationship management for the team
  • Ensure all regulatory needs are met, in collaboration with our Business Control Office, to run a workflow and control environment for quality and adherence to regulations
    • Determine whether current ICE / workflow process is the best fit; if not, champion new technologies and ways of working
    • Flag any strategic or business risks that touch the team’s areas of responsibility, and work with relevant team members to reduce risks as needed or escalate when necessary
  • Partner on a transformation to agile marketing, in collaboration with consultants and other specialists within Santander
  • Work with the head of Brand & Creative to determine ideal strategy for Internal Creative Agency, including exploring an expansion of that capability via an insourcing model
  • Collaborate with head of Corporate Communications to align resources with new strategy and vision
  • Manage the team’s Campaign Generation capability (email targeting and management)
  • Taking the opportunity to reassess the role of Marketing Operations, to identify opportunities to more efficiently use resources

The SVP will report to the Chief Marketing Officer and work closely with a peer group comprised of experienced marketing, Corporate Communications and Customer Experience professionals, both within and outside the US. Additionally, the SVP is likely to collaborate with Finance, Data & Analytics, Risk & Compliance, Technology and Procurement teams, and may take on occasional projects for the US Leadership Team at the holding company level. Some (infrequent) international travel will be expected, as well as potential travel within the United States—including to markets outside the current Santander retail banking footprint.

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience; masters preferred
  • 15+ years of experience in marketing operations, including at least 5 managing others
  • 2+ years of financial services industry experience required, ideally in digital and / or retail banking (can be on the agency side); alternatively, experience working in a regulated industry
  • Track record of driving marketing efficiencies and optimizing operations
  • Experience managing budgets in excess of $20MM
  • Experience with agile marketing, workflow technologies and processes
  • Deep familiarity with Marketing, including the campaign development process, optimization, and planning functions
