Job Description

We are looking for a graduate or somebody with a few years mining industry experience to join our Consulting Division in our Sydney office. You will be providing bespoke consulting services and solutions to help our clients address their most critical business challenges and make better commercial decisions. Our Consulting division includes more than 100 specialists working within the upstream, gas, power and renewables, downstream, chemicals and, metals and mining sectors. Our consultants offer a powerful combination of natural resources expertise and commercial consulting skills, partnering with clients to provide actionable recommendations that deliver results. We work with a range of clients including national and major oil companies, operators, investment banks and institutional investors.

About the role

Our consultants are part of a pool of resources which is assigned to different projects. This gives you fantastic exposure and development opportunities, working alongside colleagues from the different specialist practice groups: upstream, gas, power & renewables, downstream, chemicals, metals and mining.

You will input into a range of consulting projects, through the operation of sophisticated internal models, developing new models to support bespoke analysis and contributing towards creating presentations and reports and organizing client workshops. You will extract and analyse data from internal and external sources such as databases, websites, client and industry interviews and Wood Mackenzie products. You will support more senior members of the team to keep clients updated, present findings clearly and concisely.

You will maintain effective working relationships with colleagues across the business, from whom you can learn about consulting and the energy sector. You will also support the consulting practice development by working with colleagues to develop client proposals, develop intellectual capital or develop new offerings that can be taken to clients.

About you and how you can excel in this role

Our ideal candidate will have an interest in the energy and natural resources sectors, but we welcome applicants from a wide range of educational or early professional backgrounds!

You will have:

  • A degree in Engineering, Science, or any other similar course with an analytical focus.
  • A keen interest in the energy and natural resources sectors
  • Some knowledge of the energy sector, industry dynamics, commercial operations, business models and strategies, ideally supported by relevant studies or early work experience (internships or first job experience)
  • A curious and commercial mindset – you are keen to learn and understand things from a client’s point of view.
  • Good analytical skills – you are comfortable with data and modelling
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills – you can deliver messages and explain complex or technical information in a coherent, authoritative and engaging manner
  • Strong interpersonal skills – you like working with people and can work well on a project team
  • The ability to work autonomously, deliver to a deadline and adapt to changes.
