Job Description

The IT Application Portfolio Manager – CGID leads and oversees a team responsible for the Client Global Information Database (“CGID”) portfolio of applications. This person is responsible for independently and effectively overseeing development projects and associated activities related to Application Development, Problem Management, infrastructure and Change/Release Management, to ensure alignment to business requirements and strategies. The application portfolio includes the production, pre-production, Disaster Recovery, QA and Development environments. The IT Application Portfolio Manager partners with Enterprise Finance to assess, research, and analyze business requirements in order recommend solutions that meet sponsor/stakeholder needs.

What will you do?

  • Manage, lead, coach and develop 5 – 7 highly skilled and diverse IT professionals (FTE, Contractors, Onshore/OffShore mix)
  • Motivate and challenge team to be high performing and collaborative as necessary to deliver effective solutions across the application portfolio.
  • Manage development phases and understands detailed business requirements identifying, tracking and resolving business and systems issues as they relate to the application portfolio
  • Act as main contact between business line(s), interfacing applications, 3rd party vendors, Project Managers and IT Executive or Business sponsors
  • Recommend IT solutions that satisfy sponsor/stakeholder needs continually exploring and assessing options for value-add for clients.
  • Effectively handles work capacity, provides estimates and timelines,
  • Works with Project Manager and team, determines best mix of application development and third party vendor solutions to meet business requirements and project objectives
  • Facilitates complex group meetings and conducts information gathering sessions
  • Manage interactions with internal and external auditors as required from an information perspective
  • Participate in Scope assessment sessions with business teams to understand / contribute on assessing high level requirements

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 7+ years' of mainframe experience in Application Development Portfolio Management developing online and batch applications on the z/OS platform using programming languages COBOL, FOCUS
  • Strong knowledge of ISPF, JCL, and z/OS Utilities such as SYNCSORT, ENDEVOR, ServiceNow, as well as experience developing programs using database systems such as DB2
  • People Management experience (coaching, training, performance reviews, resource planning)
  • Vendor management experience
  • Proficient in SQL
  • Ability to communicate clearly using data support samples
  • Experienced with agile, iterative and waterfalls development approaches
  • Ability to liaise with Business Analysts, QA analysts, Data Architects, Solution Architects, etc

Nice to have

  • Business domain knowledge in Finance and Risk
  • Demonstrate expertise in Mainframe , JCL and Zeke scheduler
  • Very strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate with people in a wide variety of areas and at various levels from technical specialists to senior managers.
  • Ability to learn and absorb quickly new concepts (in tools and systems), apply new knowledge as appropriate and transfer knowledge to others
  • Knowledge working in the DevOps space
