In this role, you will be leading and managing a team of senior SQL engineers in the Retirement Plan Services division at Schwab. As a Senior Manager, you will plan and lead your team in maintaining high availability in all aspects of the database environments. You will be responsible for providing leadership to build strategic roadmaps as well as ensure continued operation and documentation of existing legacy platforms.

• Leading highly experienced technologists, creating successful plans to deliver solutions to the business
• Keeping up to date with developments and trends in database management
• Enhancing the scalability and performance of existing database architecture
• Developing database structures and features according to organizational needs
• Hiring, supervising, and mentoring database development teams
• Developing procedures to ensure data integrity and quality
• Documenting processes and complying with best practices in database management
• Communicating strategic technology plans to associated business partners ensuring collaboration across technology and the business
• Creating formal networks involving coordination among groups
• Leading continuous improvement efforts within area regularly to improve process and other efficiencies

What you have

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline
• People and team leadership & management
• 5+ years’ experience with running medium to large/complex projects or teams with multiple interactions and dependencies
• Demonstrated ability to define and communicate strategy and vision and influence across the Enterprise is essential
• Ability to coach, mentor, and provide direct, timely performance feedback; experience setting direction, tracking progress, and ensuring accountability
• Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
• Ability to work as a contributing member in a high-paced and focused team
• Ability to lead effectively across multiple time zones and locations
• Ability to successfully handle ambiguity
• Ability to work hands on with team members to inspire and motivate all levels of staff towards both tactical and strategic delivery goals
• Progressive experience supporting highly available, mission critical environments
• Ability to paint a holistic picture of environment health to technology and business partners leveraging proven strong communication skills, both written and verbal as well as strong presentation skills
• Strong innovation, creativity, and problem-solving skills, including experience facilitating incident management and system recovery efforts

Technical

• Expert level knowledge of database architecture with emphasis on SQL server
• Expert level knowledge in SQL tuning
• In-depth knowledge of wide range of database technologies like SQL, Oracle, Hadoop etc.
• Knowledge of best practices in database management with emphasis on security
• Experience managing an engineering team on large-scale projects with technical deep-dives into code, networking, operating systems and/or data store
• Strong technology affinity and experience, as well as attention to detail and the ability to design, execute and maintain strategic goals and metrics
• Experience developing strategic roadmaps and establishing strategies for teams
• Experience working with dashboard / environment health display tooling
