Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience in Optical Transport
  • Field deployment experience.
  • Experience with an optical network provider, or vendor acting in an operations or engineering role.
  • Experience in building optical networking infrastructure and/or optical networking equipment/systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Network Capacity Planning.
  • Understanding of networking and fundamentals of network troubleshooting at both Layer1 and Layer 3.
  • Detailed knowledge of fiber types and their application, physical fiber characteristics, and standard testing tools (e.g.OSA, BERT, OTDR).
  • Understanding of network transport design, equipment, infrastructure, and familiarity with network analysis and continual service improvement methods.
  • Advanced troubleshooting of DWDM and Routing systems, with proficiency in DWDM, Routing topology, and architecture which can serve as a resource for other teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The Network Delivery team is responsible for building, augmenting, and operating Google's network reliably and at scale. The team designs, configures and manages the installation of Google’s network including infrastructure, hardware setup, commissioning, trouble-shooting, and decommissioning old gear as we're in a constant upgrade cycle. We build the network that ensures our customers and users have the best and fastest experience possible.

From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. Additional Information
(Colorado only*) Minimum salary of $88,000 + bonus + equity + benefits .
*Note: Disclosure as required by sb19-085 (8-5-20) of the minimum salary compensation for this role when being hired into our offices in Colorado.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for building and operating Google's network reliably and at scale.
  • Design, build, configure, and manage the installation of Google’s network including infrastructure, hardware setup, commissioning, trouble-shooting, and decommissioning old gear as we're in a constant upgrade cycle.
  • Develop creative approaches to keep operational costs low and improve the efficiency of our ever-growing infrastructure.
  • Focus on building Long haul Optical Networks and activating capacity on Google's Network.
  • Act as the subject matter expert driving requirements for new automation tools.
