Job Description

Synopsis of the role

The CDO will set the direction and vision for the Canadian data strategy. They will identify opportunities to acquire new information and will work with partners to get alignment. This will include the leading of industry groups in an effort to build new data exchanges. It is the CDO that will ensure our data assets are fully aligned with the long-term business plan that delivers new products and analytic innovation. With the right assets in place, the CDO will implement data governance practices that manage the overall data quality and ensure that the information is used consistently across the business.

The CDO will also play a significant role in our technical transformation. With a strong understanding of data use within a Cloud environment and Data Fabric concepts, the incumbent will lead the migration of all data assets and determine how to incorporate new data sources. This includes leading changes to our data operations processes and designing appropriate data structures. In addition, the CDO will leverage new Google tools to improve data quality processes and ensure continual improvement in our data assets. The incumbent will be responsible for deploying

What You’ll Do

  • Align with Lines of Business leaders to identify new data sources that will support Product development and Work closely with Analytics to ensure appropriate data structures are available to support effective advanced analytics through efficient data use
  • Collaborate closely with Global teams to be aware of International learnings and identify opportunities to leverage cross-border relationships to get access to new data sources
  • Lead the development of Keying & Linking strategies to optimize hit rates and incorporate new methodologies for continual improvement
  • Partner extensively with IT to ensure data requirements are well understood and ensure the Cloud technology is able to manage the long term needs of the business
  • Lead the Data Operations team to ensure all data is being loaded in a timely and efficient manner with a sound proactive data quality process in place
  • Ensure that an effective data quality program is in place with proactive health checks that ensure all data is being delivered properly
  • Deploy an effective data governance process with associated Data Stewards that will manage the enterprise use of all data assets and assess requests for new use cases through a cross-functional oversight committee with Legal and Security

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Physics (essential)
  • Expert knowledge of Data Governance practices and principles with direct experience implementing an enterprise program and Expert knowledge of data management practices and principles through direct experience in a large, complex data environment
  • Experience in effectively building and monetizing large data assets in a product-centric organization and Experience managing data in a highly regulated industry
  • Strong working knowledge of Cloud-based computer environments including associated tools and methodologies for managing data in a public Cloud environment
  • A deep understanding of the Canadian marketplace to identify new data sources and the impact of regulations, including but not limited to Privacy

Extra Points for any of the Following

  • Master’s level degree in a business-related field/MBA (preferred)
  • Experience in Analytics or Technology with a strong use of data would be an asset
