This position manages a team of intermediate or experienced professionals in Design Engineering. Guides the preparation of designs and working plans, creates designs for reviews, and coordinates with engineering staff and other organizations regarding design engineering activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

•Guides and directs team members with the preparation of new or revised designs, drawings, and working plans to improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.

•Ensures that the team creates and presents designs in program milestone design reviews to prove viability and quality of designs.

•Provides technical leadership and assists in training less experienced engineers to help them diagnose and solve problems and build capabilities.

•Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development to exchange information, ideas and techniques for design of product or processes.

•Communicates with the other engineering personnel to coordinate the interrelated design and ensure project completion

•Confers with engineering staff and consults on specifications to evaluate interface between hardware and software and operational and performance requirements of overall system.

•Designs major components or major portions of functional systems, technically advanced prototypes, and promotional or specific products using computer design and engineering systems.

•Develops or improves products and facilitates manufacturing operations.

•Develops data and makes layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals.

•Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost.

•Designs, develops and tests metallic or non-metallic structures or materials and their related fabrication processes for use in engineering designs.

•Performs connect meetings to review performance against department goals. Review career development opportunities and/or training plans.

•Review and approve engineering change notices from team members. Change notices will need to be reviewed against quality standards and best practices.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR

• Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience OR

• In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required

• Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
