Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience in technical writing, software development, testing, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in product documentation, or online publishing.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience researching and writing excellent documentation for developers (e.g., APIs, SDKs, web technologies).
  • Ability to read and understand source code written in Java and Kotlin.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.

About the job

Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their abilities to explain complex topics in a way that’s useful to their audience.

In this role, you will help build the developer ecosystem for the Google Assistant, the best way for users to get things done. The Google Assistant spans efforts in some of Google's biggest software properties, such as Android, Search, and Web, as well as hardware devices running the Google Assistant, such as smart speakers, displays, mobile, TV, and Auto.

As a Technical Writer for the Google Assistant developer platform, you'll be working with Engineering and Product teams to document new products and features, such as API reference docs, codelabs, and getting started guides. You'll identify areas of improvement and learning opportunities for developers across our entire documentation set through insights and metrics-driven approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Write technical documentation for our external and internal developer audience, such as API reference manuals, developer guides, and more.
  • Design and organize documentation sets for new APIs and developer products.
  • Write and test small code samples.
  • Capture success metrics and make improvements to the documentation set.
