RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute best-in-class advanced analytics methods
  • Develop statistical models and approaches to solving data surveillance and analysis issues, including machine learning and deep learning methods
  • Present analysis to internal audiences by synthesizing complex data and concepts into easy-to-comprehend, comprehensive, and cohesive presentations
  • Work with emerging issues data scientists and product investigation support analysts to improve model capabilities and performance
  • Conduct hands-on statistical analysis (e.g., machine learning and deep learning) on large data sets as needed
  • Participate in technical conferences, meetings, panels and other vehicle safety forums
  • Collaborate with Safety, Engineering, CDAO, Quality and IT stakeholders on projects

Required Skills

  • 2+ years of post graduation work experience required; 5+ years strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of NLP algorithms across multiple projects
  • Proficiency with analytics / NLP frameworks such as scikit-learn, tensorflow, keras, torch, nltk, genism, spacy, etc.
  • Knowledge of data mining, machine learning, deep learning,
  • Highly proficient in descriptive/predictive modeling and data wrangling tools such as Python, R, SQL and etc.
  • Proficient in feature engineering for structured and unstructured data.
  • Experience with distributed computing tools such as spark or dask
  • Knowledge of big data tools and Hadoop ecosystem
  • Knowledge of statistical methods such as sampling techniques, multivariate analysis, regression analysis, survival/reliability analysis, design of experiments, and analysis of variance.
  • Deep understanding of text representation techniques (such as n-grams, bag of words, word embeddings, etc.), statistics and classification algorithms
  • Demonstrated experience developing, integrating, and continuously monitoring large integrated datasets and predictive models
  • Willingness to learn new skills and methods as needed – continuous learning mindset
  • Experience with data preparation, rationalization, and processing
  • Strong quantitative skills
  • Experience with visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, matplotlib, ggplot, plotly, or etc.
  • Ability to effectively communicate results and methodologies
  • Strong drive for results and intellectual curiosity
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle

Education/Training:

  • Bachelors degree in Applied Statistics/Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Research, or related quantitative field.
  • Professional certification in data science related systems and tools a plus

Preferred skills:

  • Masters degree in Applied Statistics/Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Research, or related quantitative field.
  • Knowledge of GM IT systems and processes, especially in the areas of Engineering, Quality/Warranty, Customer Care and Aftersales, or OnStar.
  • Experience with collaborative developments and version control systems, such as git.
  • Familiarity with deployment tools such as REST API, batch processing, docker containers, etc is a plus.
  • Two or more years’ experience in vehicle engineering or service.
  • Working knowledge of vehicle systems and CAN bus and telematics data is a plus.
  • Multilingual competency is a plus.
