Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1 year of experience with consumer product design.
  • Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools (such as PTC Creo, ProE, or NX) and mechanical simulation tools.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3 years of experience with consumer product design.
  • Experience with NX or Teamcenter.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally, communicate effectively, problem solve, think analytically, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques (DFM), finite element analysis, fabrication techniques, and electromechanical assemblies (e.g., LCD/OLED displays, batteries, sensors, FPC’s, PCB’s, antennas, buttons, etc.).
  • Familiarity with mechanical design of plastic and metal components, printed circuit boards (PCB), flexible printed circuits (FPC), and acoustics used in consumer electronic products.

As a member of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team, you use your creativity and diverse range of engineering experience to explore solutions to a variety of engineering problems. As a mechanical engineer, you participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts. You work in a manufacturing and product oriented development environment and collaborate with vendors and outside sources in order to see parts through to manufacture.

As a Product Design Engineer, you will help to improve electronics by balancing comfort, performance, and appearance. You will work on a team that balances these in an innovative and harmonious design that complements and enables the technology. You will work on the borders of risk, actively communicate among a team, establish a design direction, create prototypes, and work to scale them.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the subsystem and/or individual consumer electronics part designs from concept to production.
  • Work with global manufacturing suppliers and partners of subsystems, and drive individual part design from concept to production. Travel to meet with suppliers.
  • Build and troubleshoot prototypes, analyze results of reliability testing, iteratively improve the design, and bring to production.
  • Create and publish detailed 3D CAD and 2D drawings for your design models, search out and select materials, components, and sub-systems for product launch.
  • Design for function, reliability, human factors, manufacturability, and cosmetic requirements.
