Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in technology, science, law, policy, economics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience working with the various institutions of government, including local, national, regional, and international executive agencies, legislatures, regulators, and other policy making bodies.
  • Experience working with sustainability, energy, circular economy, and/or climate policy issues, with industry associations and sustainability stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience working with international teams and a variety of stakeholders, and in executing strategies to deliver exceptional solutions.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with multiple teams simultaneously.
  • Excellent personal, political, analytical and communication skills, and solid attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of sustainability, energy, circular economy, climate change issues, and the policy environments that surround them, and experience advocating with government bodies on these issues.
  • Team player with the ability to exercise good judgment in a rapidly changing and sometimes stressful environment.

As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team, you'll be part of a diverse Global Government Affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You’ll combine creativity and intellectual aptitude with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects, and initiatives. In this role, you’ll advocate for Google and bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. As the Sustainability and Climate Policy Manager, you will manage European sustainability, climate, and circular economy policy initiatives that advance the carbon-free and circular outcomes for Google’s products, services, and operations as well as for partners and stakeholders.

In this role, you will help to drive overall policy development that advances priorities for a wide variety of business units across Google, lead individual strategic initiatives and projects, and work with teams across the company in support of Google's sustainability objectives.

Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

Responsibilities

  • Develop sustainability policy positions on key issues affecting Google Business teams in Europe and beyond, including circular economy policy for devices/hardware, sustainability-related financial reporting, environmental regulations on digital products and services, cloud computing standards and regulations, trade-related climate policy, and more.
  • Lead policy and regulatory engagement and advocacy efforts primarily in European jurisdictions to advance Google’s sustainability policy and business goals, working to support a wide variety of business teams.
  • Work cross-functionally with others on GAPP, as well as with Communications, Marketing, Sustainability, and others develop and communicate market positions and policy priorities to key constituencies.
  • Lead strategic evaluations of sustainability and climate policy environments, sustainability trends, and stakeholder interests in Europe, and beyond to assess risks and opportunities for Google’s Business teams.
