Associate, Public Policy - Brussels

BlackRock’s EMEA Public Policy team focuses on highlighting the voice of the investor in the policy debate and supporting regulation that enhances financial market transparency, protect investors, and facilitate responsible growth of capital markets, while preserving consumer choice and properly balancing benefits versus implementation costs.

As part of this, the team liaises closely with a number of stakeholders both internally and externally, including the External Affairs function, country management teams across EMEA, industry associations, and external communications agencies. This internal and external collaboration across many fast moving areas has increased in recent years, so to support this, the team are seeking an Associate to grow and further strengthen the team in Brussels today (a Managing Director and a Vice President).

Responsibilities

• Working collaboratively with the EMEA Public Policy team in Brussels, London, Frankfurt and Paris to deliver on team objectives; creating and promoting thought leadership, engaging with stakeholders in the policy space, and ensure business partners and senior leadership in the firm are informed of important policy developments.
• Contributing to the Public Policy team’s internal working groups and standing committees, and both internal and external written deliverables.
• Play a key role in drafting policy and regulatory consultation responses and white papers.
• Work with senior team members to set strategic engagement priorities and identify engagement opportunities.
  • Lead on coordination and execution of Ideas Exchange policy roundtable discussions.
  • Lead on coordination of Brussels-based policymaker engagement schedules for senior executives and business leads.
• Develop working relationships with Brussels policy stakeholders; including the EU institutions, trade associations, think tanks and other relevant organisations.
• Work with communications and external affairs functions where appropriate to support engagement with Brussels-based media and journalists.

Requirements

• Applicant should be fluent in English. Proficiency in another European language is an advantage.
• Demonstrated organisational abilities, strong writing skills, with the motivation to thrive in a dynamic, collaborative and diverse environment.
• Compatibility with BLK’s core values and a shared belief in our organisational purpose.
• Strong knowledge of the EU policymaking process and environment, and familiarity with the financial services policy agenda (or related regulatory sector/ discipline).
• 2-3 years of relevant experience in a trade association, think tank, consultancy, public institution, corporate public policy team, or a related role in an asset management firm preferred.
