Purpose of Job

We are seeking a talented Financial Reporting Analyst Lead for either our San Antonio, TX, or Charlotte, NC facility.
Serves as key contributor in leading the preparation and delivery of financial statements and regulatory reports and analysis used by internal and external stakeholders to meet regulatory and compliance reporting requirements. Proven ability to perform and drive team(s) to appropriately research, prepare and review complex financial and regulatory reports and completes significant business and operational analytics while adhering to internal controls over financial reporting. Supports audits and examinations and interacts frequently with internal and external auditors and regulatory examiners.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identify and manage existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.
  • Follow written risk and compliance policies and procedures for business activities.
  • Develops and leads teams and processes in the end to end delivery of complex financial and regulatory reporting to include Bank Holding Company reporting, Enterprise GAAP reporting, P&C and Life Insurance STAT reporting, and / or investment reporting.
  • Applies advance in-depth knowledge of appropriate and applicable industry practices and USAA business and products relevant impacting the financial statements.
  • Applies professional skepticism to analytical review and identifies trends and variances in the business and financial statement interrelationships and recommends and leads solutions to key financial and regulatory reporting opportunities. Drives and motivates team members to provide advanced analytics and insights around key business drivers.
  • Manages and oversees the preparation of and reviews complex financial and regulatory reports in addition to audited statements and support schedules and assists management in assigning team tasks and managing workflow.
  • Identifies, monitors and drives issue management and resolution in accordance with internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Leads cross functional collaboration with management, regulatory agencies, and business partners to ensure appropriate discussion and execution of requisite actions.
  • Monitors, implements and develops recommendations for new, proposed and changes to financial reporting requirements to determine the impact to USAA.
  • Serves as an advisor and subject matter expert to management as well as a mentor to peers and team members.
  • Drafts and delivers disclosures, technical memos, presentations and other supporting documentation, driving key messages and approach. Interacts with management to present financial and regulatory information to management and stakeholders.
  • Partners with areas across the enterprise to ensure correct and timely receipt of supporting information. Researches and responds to complex requests from examiners and auditors. Oversees responses to routine requests.
  • Plans and prioritizes maintenance of processes, procedures, tools and resources.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field: 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience preparing and delivering financial statements and regulatory reports in the financial services industry, Bank Holding Company or relevant work experience.
  • Expert proficiency of applicable Microsoft Office applications.
  • Subject matter expert knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Subject matter expert knowledge of bank and insurance regulatory reporting rules, regulations, and forms.
  • Subject matter expert knowledge of data analysis tools and techniques.
  • Ability to effectively work with both internal and external partners.

Preferred Experience:

  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration (MBA)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) accounting and reporting requirements.
  • Ability to coordinate and work closely with other impacted business units, including the lines of business, legal and compliance.
  • Ability to coordinate and work closely with external auditors and regulators.
  • Key experiences in insurance industry, property and casualty or life insurance external reporting, including but not limited to quarterly/annual statements (yellow book or blue book), supplements NAIC filings, Risk Based Capital and/or statutory financial statements.
  • Experiences in annual statement software such as Wings Plus and/or reporting software Wdesk.

Compensation:

USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this position is: $106,800 - $192,300 *(this does not include geographic differential it may be applied based on your work location)

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

*Geographical Differential: Geographic pay differential is additional pay provided to eligible employees working in locations where market pay levels are above the national average.

Shift premium: will be addressed on an individual-basis for applicable roles that are consistently scheduled for non-core hours.
