Job Description
Associate Director, Clinical Data Science is an expert in the field of Data Science. Contributes to department strategy by acting as subject matter expert (internally and externally) and leading improvement and innovation projects. Responsible for developing complex CM functionalities independently and/or by leading project teams. Has strong project management skills. Supports data science capability build within a team by mentoring more junior team members.
Works closely with Senior Specialists and Associate Directors, RbQM, other Clinical Data Scientists, CM LT and other internal and external stakeholders.
Typical Accountabilities
- Acts as a subject matter expert in an area of CM analytical framework and/or CM analyses methodology both internally and externally
- Demonstrates good understanding of a broader CM strategy and contributes to it by driving innovation/optimization projects
- Has a thorough expertise in CM analytical framework and can propose and drive changes and development directions
- Can design, develop and lead development of standard and prototype CM analyses to address emerging business needs and bring innovation into CM and RbQM. Tasks can involve gathering of requirements, programming, testing, documentation, coordination of work of other involved personnel
- When necessary, provides Clinical Data Scientists, Senior Clinical Data Scientists and Senior Clinical Data Scientists II with guidance on design and development of data mapping and CM functionalities
- Will act as CM technology and analytics expert providing guidelines and support to CM team members on the system functionality, defining best practices and collaborating with CM System Owner in an implementation of an agreed business processes
- Understands software development lifecycle and has up to date knowledge about associated SOPs to be able to implement its principles in designing and prototyping new CM functionalities
- Explores and leverages the opportunities to apply advanced analytical techniques, e.g. data mining, forecasting, simulation, machine learning and natural language processing.
- May have ownership of CM standard analyses and CM data standards
- Demonstrates strong cross-functional leadership skills or is a recognized expert in a field of Data Science
- Contributes to department strategy by acting as SME (internally and externally) and leading improvement and innovation projects
- Contributes to function recruitment, training and mentoring
- Provides consultancy and training in area of data analysis to other CM team members, including training on the novel CM functionalities.
- Creates prototypes, demonstrations to help others better understand complex analytics and proposed solutions.
Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Educational degree (BSc/Msc/PhD) in Life Science, Computer Science or Information Science and 4 years of experience in the application of information and knowledge management in a clinical or scientific setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Advanced R programming and ability to apply advanced analytical methods to existing and new CM analyses
- Solid knowledge of SQL
- Team Leader
- Ability to define and lead optimization, innovation projects and interact with internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English
- Strong Project Management skills
- Ability to mentor, train and lead teams.
- Good understanding of the clinical development process
- Agile responsiveness to industry and business needs and Embracing of peer revie
- Demonstrated leadership capability – including ability to influence stakeholders
Desirable
- Previous experience with big data frameworks like Hadoop or Spark will be an advantage
- Previous experience with machine learning frameworks like caret, mlr, Keras, TensorFlow or PyTorch will be an advantage
- Previous experience in life science and clinical studies is an advantage
