Job Description

Gimlet Media is seeking a Head of Production to oversee production strategy and execution for our slate of award-winning existing shows and new programming in development. This key leader will be a vital member of the Gimlet executive team, building and executing a vision for Gimlet’s content, working across our new and existing show teams to bring that vision to life. Over time, we have seen that the composition of audio teams is one of the key determining factors of a show’s success and longevity, so we have created a high-ranking position to oversee this part of the business. The role will collaborate with Spotify, as well as Gimlet operations and other internal departments to ensure that the existing shows are correctly staffed, and the new show development slate is executed correctly. This person will also oversee training and development of our creative teams and manage internal and external programs to develop our staff. This is an important position that touches every part of Gimlet’s work. The Head of Production will report directly to the Managing Director.

What You'll Do

    • Work closely with managing director to develop and implement content strategy across new slates of shows
    • Work closely with the heads of our content verticals and the executive development editors to shape and build teams; every new project will be run through the Head of Production to make sure it is adequately resourced and fits into the overall production priorities
    • Manage the talent pipeline of producers and editors, both full-time and contract staff; recruit and develop a diverse group of creative talent who can produce compelling work that resonates with large audiences
    • Maintain Gimlet’s existing creative culture of quality, while also helping to imagine the kind of audio we can make for new and evolving audiences
    • Collaborate with editorial leads to create an equitable, humane and creative workplace for employees
    • Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues including but not limited to Marketing, HR, Operations, Legal, Finance, and Sales on seasonal and new show launches
    • Partner with these stakeholders to drive Gimlet content priorities and achieve growth goals including listenership, engagement, and revenue

What You'll Bring

    • A strong track record of creating audio content of the highest quality
    • Excellent taste and ability to identify talent with great creative instincts
    • Proven track record of creating, inspiring and leading large creative teams
    • Experience building and overseeing content budgets that accommodate creative risk while delivering business results over the long term
    • Ability to work with and get consensus from a wide range of partners across an organization
    • High degree emotional intelligence
    • Proven track record of building inclusive and accountable culture
    • Familiarity with audience data and enthusiasm for helping show teams achieve their maximum growth potential
    • Comfort operating in ambiguous environments full of change, and ability to create clarity for your team in such environments while managing a wide variety of complex projects
    • Extensive experience managing teams in a creative content organization
    • Background in creating incredible content
