Our location in Irving, TX currently has an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer/Designer.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Summary:

Will be responsible for 3D modeling of Standard Purchase Parts (nuts, bolts, connectors, etc. ) for use in Abbott designs. Responsible for maintaining Standard Purchase Parts model library and, processing change requests as needed, updating models and drawings per redline changes and some minor design changes when required. Ideally seeking candidates with 5 years’ work experience using SolidWorks 3D CAD Design Tools for modeling and drafting.”

Responsibilities:

  • Completes tasks within based on an outline with of suggestions for methods of approach and procedures to follow.
  • Provides input to the product teams regarding the development of new designs, methods or processes.
  • Reviews literature, patents, and current practices relevant to the solution of current problems.
  • May assign work to designers or engineering technicians.
  • Participates as part of product design team.
  • Exchanges information with product team members, designers and, techs, and other engineering personnel.
  • Develop training and guidance for use of Standard Purchase Part Library or other assignments relative to engineering design and development.
  • Delivers recommendations and suggestions to other product team members.
  • Defines Problems/ Recommends Solutions: Applies standard theoretical models and leading edge methodologies to interpret, and draw conclusions,.
  • Recommend options, reviews literature and patents., Creates/ Modifies Designs for Basic Problems: Creates or modifies basic designs and supporting documentation based on design requirements.
  • Plans Activity Structure: Makes plans, executes and revises as needed to accomplish assigned individual tasks to meet expectations (cost, quality, time).
  • Performs Assessments & Executes Test Protocols: Establishes and reviews protocol requirements and determines validity of the test with guidance and review from senior engineers.
  • Exchanges Information: Exchanges information with appropriate frequency and within a time frame to maximize its utility and promote cross functional collaboration, verifies that information is understood by the recipient.
  • Adapts Information to Customer Needs: Delivers communications tailored to the needs of the receiver (managers, peers, customer)
  • Makes Presentations : Defines purpose and objectives.,
  • Organizes ideas, prepares A-V aids, keeps to time frame and presents intelligibly.
  • Actively Listens: Listen actively to acquire information and understand the others viewpoint.
  • Give Constructive Feedback: Give appropriate, helpful information specific to the issue, uses examples, and ties feedback to specific business issues.
  • Resolves Conflicts: Faces conflicts and takes initiative to resolve them constructively so all parties can be productive, knows when to involve others.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

Required: Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in an engineering or closely related discipline preferred.

Minimum Experience / Training Required :

  • Applies engineering technical knowledge for specified engineering discipline for subsystem development. Applies engineering technical knowledge for specified engineering discipline for subsystem development.
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and biologics is desired.
  • 2 years of related work experience with degree or sufficient transferable experience to demonstrate functional equivalence to a degree

Preferred/Ideal Education, Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of related work experience in: Mechanical Engineering/Design, from the following types of companies/industries: Electro-Mechanical Design and Packaging, Aerospace, Automotive and/or Healthcare (Medical Device manufacturer or similar)
  • Software: CAD 3D Modeling (SolidWorks), Microsoft Office, Siemens Teamcenter, command line scripting or programming skills.
