The Job
Home Box Office, Inc. seeks a Finance Manager for the HBO Finance & Analysis department. The Manager will lead and execute the daily activities supporting the Direct to Consumer (DTC) Finance team, including the preparation, review, and presentation of accurate, timely, and relevant financial reporting, planning and analysis. This role will support finance leadership and business operating partners by preparing and reviewing forecasts, budgets, and long-range plans, along with ad hoc financial and business analyses. In-depth industry knowledge and understanding of key business drivers will be used to support business decision making. Responsibilities include auditing financial reports, developing tracking and reporting initiatives, validating financial data, enforcing internal controls, leading forecasting and budgeting efforts, supporting ad hoc analyses for the business unit, and identifying major risks and opportunities. This position will assist with the supervision of financial analysis staff to set goals, provide direction and support, and assist in career development plans. Advanced knowledge of the principles and theories of finance, statistics, and other related disciplines to plan, design and conduct financial business analyses is critical for this role.
The Daily
  • Support the planning, coordination and preparation of the DTC business forecasts, budgets and long-range plans process to ensure they are done in a timely and organized manner
  • Conduct and participate in meetings with business unit’s Financial and Operating Senior Management teams and other business partners to gain insight into overall financial strategies
  • Ensure the accuracy, relevancy and integrity of all information on financial statements reported in the P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, variances and rollforward schedules
  • Develop innovative analyses that measure financial and operational performance in ways not captured on basic financial statements
  • Create robust and sophisticated financial and business models, test the models for insight, and present findings
  • Develop and implement analytical tools and ensure that analyses add value by providing timely and pertinent information to support management decision making
  • Support the financial and management reporting function; review and validate the information in complex reports that are produced on a daily, weekly and/or monthly basis using various applications (e.g. Excel, Hyperion)
  • Act as project manager and/or participate in cross-division projects; organize meetings, collect and summarize data, present findings in an Executive Summary format
  • Manage member(s) on the team by assigning projects appropriately and coaching to enhance performance

The Essentials
  • BA/BS degree, preferably in Finance, Engineering, Accounting or Economics
  • CPA or MBA preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive Finance experience
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in a role with demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills (led/participated in major projects/teams, provided guidance to other staff)
  • Financial modeling and analysis experience required
  • Strong presentation skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and make high level recommendations to senior leadership
  • Ability to manage multiple high-profile projects and work in a fast-paced, project/deadline-driven environment with large sets of complex data
  • Outstanding analytical skills with the ability to apply in order to influence and drive decision making
  • Ability to work effectively with a team and constituents that span multiple geographies globally
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Prior experience with standard financial applications (Hyperion Essbase or related) preferred
  • Knowledge and passion for Media/Entertainment industry a plus
  • Understanding of SVOD / Direct-to-Consumer business models a plus
