An imperative around driving efficient, reusable, and easy to consume technology solutions is a bedrock of our Company's IT and Digital Strategy. The Enterprise Architecture capability across the company needs to pivot and expand its service offerings and delivery results this year. The CTO Organization’s EA team has been tasked to lead this transformation. The EA team’s mission of “providing strategic technology decisions linked to investments that achieve business outcomes” sets the direction and focus for the architecture capability that will underpin the company’s Digital Strategy.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Information Architecture, this role will be a member of the EA Information Architecture team. This role will interact with Senior Divisional IT leaders on a regular basis and will need to clearly communicate and demonstrate the value of Enterprise Architecture and Information Architecture to their respective organizations.

This role will contribute to the creation of an Information Architecture capability framework and enterprise data strategy. The role will supply thought leadership in support of the company’s initiatives in data value capture and acceleration. This role will work closely with the company’s Data Management Services team to supply architectural leadership and strategic direction. This role needs to ensure the information and data strategy that is developed enables the capabilities needed to deliver business value to our customers.

The role will understand the mandatory information management requirements of the enterprise and focus on developing the information architecture across relevant business areas (R&D, manufacturing, marketing/sales, and supporting global functions). The role will contribute to consistent standards and leverage those standards to produce tangible artifact and deliverables. The role will focus on providing the enterprise the necessary Information Architecture frameworks, processes, and deliverables to provide proactive insights to critical data challenges and future needs backed by business cases for investment.

This role is responsible for the “stack” of IA capabilities and frameworks and will develop information architecture assets spanning the following areas:

  • Data Asset Investment
  • Data Governance
  • Data Mapping
  • Data Quality
  • Data Architecture
  • Data Modelling
  • Reference and Master Data
  • Data Profiling
  • Data Classification / Entitlements / Audit
  • Change Management / Insulation Architectures
  • Data Storage and Operations Document and Content
  • Analytics & Business Intelligence
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning algorithms applied towards data

This leader will have an opportunity to work on a truly enterprise team that engages with leaders across all divisions and will be directly involved in helping enable our CIO’s vision of a more top-down, agile, and business outcomes-focused IT organization. The position will work in tandem with other Technical, Systems and Solutions architects across the company.

A partial list of responsibilities includes the following:

  • Establish Information Architecture (IA) standards and practices. These standards and practices are expected to span capability areas including: data capture/collection, ontology creation, data mapping, and taxonomies.
  • Establish strong working relationships with business and technology leaders to influence and implement the EIM framework and strategy and establish an enterprise-wide information architecture program.
  • Analyze the data landscape across the enterprise and assess health and risks of the current state. Deliver a strategy that evolves the current state toward one where enterprise data supports the company’s transformation goals.
  • Grow the capabilities of an enterprise data marketplace, including data cataloguing, data discovery and data governance.
  • Mature the company’s delivery of information assets, leveraging product management practices to offer “Data Products.”
  • Deliver a master data management strategy, including entity definition and ongoing sustainment.
  • Collaborate with information security, business, and IT stakeholders to implement an information access policy and rules of use.
  • Stay current with EIM technology trends and introduce these best practices to the company.
  • Drive the notion of reusable Data Assets, manage data as an asset.
  • Discover, recommend, and implement enhancements to the enterprise Data Management architecture.
  • Support the creation of a common and well managed set of EA practices, which includes architecture models, architecture governance processes, architecture methods and templates, architecture communities and training, and much more.
  • Create EA deliverables and artifacts relevant for accountable architecture domain(s).
  • Prepare and deliver executive level briefings and communicate complex topics effectively to a diverse executive audience.

Travel will be required (25%).

Position Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, systems analysis or a related study.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • 12+ years of experience spanning IT disciplines including technical architecture, Databases, Master Data Management, and Information Architecture.
  • 5+ years in a management role.
  • Strong Information Management Background Skills in MDM, Data Quality, Information Governance, Data Modelling, Information Architecture and Metadata management.
  • Has expertise in leading-edge practices, techniques, and/or technologies within Data, analytics & information management.
  • Data Domain Experience in one of the Core Information Management Domains

(Personal Data, Finance, Customer, Product, Research, Manufacturing).

  • Experience with the core capabilities and technologies necessary to build a strong information architecture practice.
  • Working knowledge of current Data and Information architecture frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with business stakeholders and navigate across conflicting priorities to balance critical tactical and strategic needs.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills – able to effectively communicate complex concepts in simple ways.
  • Strategic thinker, with proven ability to work in a broad and top-down manner with a fair amount of ambiguity at the center.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with a variety of audiences and stakeholders including, but not limited to executive management, business leaders, IT peers, and colleagues worldwide.
  • Effectively leverages diversity to provide the benefit of different perspectives.
  • Demonstrated leadership in achieving shared goals in a matrix organization, managing cross-divisional initiatives, and cross-functional teams in an extremely dynamic environment.
  • Self-directed, self-motivated, focused leader who with little direction can fill in the gaps as to what is needed, and drive expected results.
  • Results-orientation with the proven ability and reputation for developing plans and implementing them successfully.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Prior experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry.
  • Prior experience in Enterprise, Technical or Solution Architecture.
  • Knowledge/certification in TOGAF or other EA methodology frameworks.
  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments.
  • Knowledge of business process re-engineering principles and processes.
  • Strong understanding of application development methodologies.
  • Experience with systems development lifecycle (SDLC) practices.
