Information Technology Principal User Experience Designer Remote, United States APPLY

It’s time for a change...and a unique opportunity to improve the health and wellbeing of millions of Americans!

Founded in 2002, New Century Health has been on the cutting edge of value-based innovation for decades as the nation's foremost specialty care management company, specializing in managing cancer and cardiology patients for both payers and risk-based providers. Formerly backed by Water Street Partners, the company was acquired by Evolent Health in 2018 and has scaled tremendously since.

Specifically, New Century Health provides physicians with clinical decision and population health management tools to ensure that their patients receive the highest quality, most affordable care. These best-in-class tools, which have earned the business URAC accreditation in Health Utilization Management and NCQA accreditation in Utilization Management, consistently drive clinical and financial improvements for the two most complex and expensive diseases in the nation. This commitment to excellence has helped spur our success and put us on track to surpass record-breaking year-over-year growth in the coming years.

The Role in Brief and Who You’ll Be Working With

As the company’s first User Experience leader you will have the unique opportunity to craft the function and dramatically improve the experience of our myriad users, including thousands of oncology and cardiology teams across the country that use our core decision support product to positively impact the health of millions of patients. You will interact deeply with these users, along with our clients and prospective clients. New Century Health has an entrepreneurial and collegial culture, and you should expect regular interaction with Product and Engineering as well as Clinical Operations, Network Operations, Account Management, Analytics, and our Executive Leadership Team. Overall, this position offers a unique opportunity to drive meaningful innovation and impact.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Develop deep understanding of – and empathy for – our external and internal users including their goals/jobs-to-be-done, current workflows, mental models, expectations, frustrations, and the like
  • Work closely with Product and Engineering to develop a product vision – and information architecture – that consistently surprises and delights these users
  • Develop detailed understanding of our current solution, assess it against this product vision and prioritize opportunities to enhance the user experience
  • Create journey maps, prototypes, wireframes, and design guidelines/principles to support product analysts and engineers as they develop new features
  • Develop and maintain an impactful and nimble product demo for user training and prospective client demonstrations
  • Use metrics (including expanded utilization analytics) to measure effectiveness and drive improvement
  • Support efforts to conduct market research, run user tests, and facilitate product advisory council(s) with provider practice staff, physicians, and payer clients to understand needs, evaluate product and enhancement ideas, and inform design decisions
  • Promote the value of design thinking and strengthen internal capabilities
  • Develop and champion a consistent design language and design process across New Century Health.

The Experience You’ll Need (Required)

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 6+ years of experience in software UI/UX design, preferably working in healthcare

Finishing Touches (Preferred)

  • Passion for improving healthcare overall and for the little things that create “warm and fuzzy” moments for users
  • Intense curiosity and an abhorrence for “ivory tower” design
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves and be scrappy
  • Fluency in all areas of user experience design: user research, information architecture, interaction design, visual design, prototyping, design strategy and planning, and workshop facilitation
  • Track record of delivering with cross-functional agile scrum teams
  • Strong collaborative teamwork skills working with technical groups but also non-technical groups on technical issues
  • Experience with industry tools: UX design programs (Figma, Sketch, Invision, Adobe, Visio, etc.), analytics tracking tools (Google Analytics, etc.) and presentation programs (PPT, Keynote, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and empathy for the user
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
