As the EMC/TEMPEST and Certification Senior Engineer, you will be the key technical leader to provide EMC, regulatory compliance and/or TEMPEST direction for technology, design, development, test, and certification of Viasat products. You will wear many hats while performing a variety of functions as follows: project leadership, risk assessment, systems engineering, design guidance, standards interpretation, product qualification, test, certification, compliance reporting, and customer technical support. Your engineering expertise will provide EMC and/or TEMPEST design support input during the product development phase, write and submit proposals, and potentially direct a team that provides EMC, regulatory compliance (NRTL/CE Mark), and/or TEMPEST support for Viasat products. You will be part of top engineering and/or scientific personnel responsible for planning, organizing, and directing engineering programs and activities of critical importance and complexity. This includes responsibility for solving complex multidisciplinary technical issues, reviewing and/or directing the efforts of other technical contributors, namely Mechanical and Electrical Engineers.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years’ experience designing, developing, and testing RF communication products and/or crypto systems
  • Current knowledge of US and global EMC requirements, namely FCC/CFR-47 part 15, IEC-55022, -24 -32, EN 61000-series, EN-301489 and EN-301450.
  • Current knowledge of RTCA/DO-160, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-1399, and MIL-STD-704
  • Experience with TEMPEST and crypto certification efforts, specifically NSTISSAM TEMPEST 1/92, AMSG-720/784, and FIPS-140
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-188-181, -182, -183 (UHF SATCOM/LOS), MIL-STD-188-164, -165 (C, X, Ku and Ka-band communications systems).
  • Working knowledge of Link 16 products
  • Direct experience integrating both narrow and wide-bandwidth RF communications systems onto military satellites, aircraft, and platforms
  • Experience in project management, especially balancing cost, schedule, and technical requirements
  • Providing management support directing outside test lab efforts
  • Minimum Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering or Math, with an emphasis in EMC, RF Communications Systems, Antennas/Propagation, Cryptography and/or Systems Engineering
  • US Government position: US citizenship required
  • Candidate must currently hold a minimum SECRET clearance
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Preferences:

  • Masters’ Degree
  • Certification for EMC (iNARTE) and/or TEMPEST (CTP-II)
  • IEEE membership, specifically in EMC, Antenna/Propagation, and/or Cryptography
