Backend engineers at Twilio are responsible for building products for developers, builders and operators alike. You will work closely with Product and Design and be responsible for building low latency, highly scalable APIs.

A great day for you would be working alongside a small and collaborative team, whiteboarding ideas, building APIs used by all Twilio customers, as well as constantly improving services that power Twilio’s top products and also generate significant revenue. At the same time, you will be helping more junior developers by mentoring them, providing guidance, and positively influencing their careers.

Who?

Twilio is looking for a Backend Engineer who lives the Twilio Magic and has a demonstrated track record of building highly scalable products while working with sophisticated distributed systems. They also have:

• 7+ years of Java experience. Experience with at least one framework in which you can be called an expert. We are flexible on the years of experience if you rock it on the tech tests!
• 3+ years of experience working with highly scalable large distributed systems, relational databases like MySQL, data pipeline systems, frameworks to build high-performance RESTful web services. We are flexible on the years of experience if you rock it on the tech tests!
• Well versed (and opinionated) on what makes a good REST API.
• Prior experience working with PHP and/or Python is a plus
• Experience designing, building and supporting critical user-facing systems.
• Strong cross-team communication and collaboration skills. You work with your team towards common goals.
• A healthy ability to handle and resolve conflict - you have the ability to listen, present, and question effectively
• Knowledge of processes and engineering best practices in all phases of the software development process.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills - You are confident in writing down and presenting your designs and decisions throughout the development lifecycle. You are also comfortable providing and receiving feedback in an Agile environment
• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with 7 years of experience with software development lifecycle and processes
