The Automation Engineerwill provide technical expertise on the DeltaV platform to support automation activities within the API (Drug Substance) network. This role will design and deliver automation systems (mainly DeltaV) for major capital projects across the API Network.
This role is a mid-level engineering role which requires a 4-year engineering degree, preferably in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related science field. The position requires high learning agility and a background in DCS programming (preferably DeltaV) and experience in automated BioTech manufacturing. There is an expectation of travel to other Lilly international locations with varying durations project to project.
Global Process Automation & Control Engineering (GPACE) is part of the Engineering Tech Center (ETC). GPACE provides automation, measurement, and process control solutions. GPACE is a technical resource for training, standards, capital project delivery, and Lilly’s standard automation platforms. GPACE’s primary customers are global manufacturing and development sites, MQIT, and peer groups such as Global Facilities Delivery (GFD).
Key Objectives/Deliverables
Work safely and continually look for improvements to both people and equipment safety.
Expertise with Automation Technologies – Lead the corporation’s efforts to better engineer automation projects on all platforms.
Automation/Control Discipline and Technical Leadership – Partner with colleagues to lead the discipline through solution assessment, reuse, and development. Manage tools, engineering standards, master specifications and best practices.
Automation Design – Provide support to manufacturing sites and Global Facilities Delivery during project profiling and design. Ensure project design meets intended requirements, considers life cycle cost, and eliminates non-value add complexity. Use replication and best practices to optimize project cost. This role could be support or lead of Automation deliverables.
Automation Delivery – support key corporate initiatives with technical and project leadership to deliver robust automation systems. This includes major Capital Delivery and partnerships between Lilly Engineering and IT.
Optimization and Control – Increase the benefits of automation and control solutions while driving life-cycle costs down. Apply automation solutions to meet site, network, and business unit objectives for productivity, quality, and cost. Assist sites globally with technical planning, technology assessments, process control troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
External Influence and Benchmarking - Monitor and influence, when appropriate, changes in external codes and standards on Lilly’s behalf, and work to ensure ongoing compliance within Lilly. Extract benchmarking information from academia and industry.
