Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil/Architectural Engineering, Construction Economics, Urban Planning and Real Estate Development, or Quantity Surveyor or equivalent practical experience
  • 10 years of experience managing technical programs/projects
  • Experience with the principles of construction planning and dispute resolution, regional construction markets, methods, practices and standards

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience distilling information into management reporting and presenting information to senior management
  • Experience in vendor management and outsourcing model
  • Experience in change management, with solid influencing skills and the ability to successfully manage multiple complex priorities
  • Ability to collaborate and influence across multiple levels of an organization, with experience leading cross-functional process improvements and holding project leads accountable to the greater project goals
  • Excellent problem solver with solid verbal and written communication and facilitation skills
  • Excellent analytical skills with solid attention to detail, and presentation skills

About the job

The Global Real Estate Controls team supports the Real Estate and Workplace Services (REWS) capital project construction portfolio by developing programs, tools, and processes to solve problems, improve governance, build efficiency, and minimize risk for Google.

As a Real Estate Cost Controls Program Manager, you will be responsible for managing end-to-end cost management services and oversee cost consulting vendors that support our global real estate construction portfolio. The role requires an in-depth understanding of overall construction program life cycle, construction cost management practices including budgeting, estimating, forecasting, discussing, and benchmarking.

You will collaborate with construction teams, REWS leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to develop and manage robust project controls and assurance functions related schedule, cost, risk and change management. You will have regular opportunities to make an impact on a global scale.

Responsibilities

  • Set strategy and drive consistent cost management practices for all global real estate projects; develop and maintain an internal benchmarking database and develop methodologies for classification, interpretation, and benchmarking of gathered data
  • Implement and maintain standard procedures for cost informational requirements from data submitted by contractors, vendors, and suppliers
  • Perform a variety of cost engineering functions encompassing estimating, cost control, budget preparations, forecasting and cost reporting with limited supervision
  • Support project executives in discussing package buyouts, change orders, value engineering, reviewing of proposal, payment applications, and participating in value engineering exercises
  • Partner with project leadership and internal cross-functional-teams to build business cases and rationale behind the delivery recommendation, and assist in presenting for approval
