The Role

BuzzFeed is seeking a motivated, organized, hard-working and creative public relations intern to join the Communications team for the summer. The Communications intern will be an integral part of the Public Relations team that spans all divisions of BuzzFeed, gaining experience in news, entertainment, social publishing, tech, commerce, food, business and internal communications.

The Communications intern will be responsible for managing team press lists and other important documents, tracking press coverage across all BuzzFeed properties, including HuffPost, Tasty, BuzzFeed News, Cocoa Butter, Pero Like and more. The intern will be encouraged to generate creative pitch ideas, and work with every team member on projects and timely initiatives.

The ideal candidate knows the media industry and its key players (tell us what you read and watch, where you get your news, who you follow, etc.), and has an excellent understanding of the news and entertainment landscape (morning shows, cable news, entertainment and late night shows, evening news, etc), including top digital, print and radio outlets.

The PR intern will also assist with the Communications team’s administrative needs, including supporting internal Global All Hands Meetings, organizing PR and press events, assisting with virtual conferences, awards submissions, invoices, and more.

This is a paid, full time internship and we’re looking for someone to commit for 3 months starting immediately. Ideally this person will be New York based or can be remote, with the ability to work Eastern Standard Time hours.

You Will

• Work closely with all Communications team members on projects across the company including BuzzFeed News, BuzzFeed Content, Commerce, Tech, Business Org, HuffPost, Tasty, International and Internal Communications.
• Track and compile press coverage for frequent media reports that are distributed to the company.
• Track media and tech industry news that would be helpful for the communications team to read.
• Build out press lists around various projects and initiatives.
• Update and maintain internal press documents and reports.
• Help design and collaborate on powerpoints and decks for internal and external distribution.
• Work closely with the PR team on press pitches and appearances (generating ideas, helping with media prep, staffing, etc) and company/virtual events that have a Communications element.
• Assist with award submissions and coordinating speaking engagements.
• Use working knowledge of the media industry to help position BuzzFeed's overall brand.

You Have

• Current college student pursuing a bachelor's degree
• Previous internship experience in media, tech, news, entertainment and/or PR required
• A demonstrated understanding of the media industry and a creative spirit when it comes to positioning BuzzFeed – bring your ideas!
• A passion for news/tech/entertainment//lifestyle, a general sensibility for the tech and media industries, and someone who knows and loves all things social
• Strong work ethic, creativity, motivation, flexibility, and excellent writing and organizational skills are necessary to succeed in this position.
• Familiarity with clipping services and contact databases (Cision, TV Eyes, etc.)
• Proficient in Google apps (Google Docs, Google Forms, Google Slides, etc.)
