Job Description

  • Responsible for software application development and maintenance for products that generate risk information for all locations in the United States.
  • This position uses Postgres/Oracle database and Geographical Information System (GIS) functionality on spatial data for the US.
  • The major components of this position include: 1) Maintenance of existing code and resolving issues and questions pertaining to existing processes. 2) Research, investigation, and prototyping new products and improvements in processes flow. 3) Development of code for new products, process improvement, and product changes. 4) Optimize existing algorithms to improve performance. Position requires learning and understanding business rules and logic.
  • Learn company products including source code and product market niches.
  • Learn functions of other departments and where they fit into software development cycle. Some Web application development and maintenance to support the work of the operations, production/test, or software teams.
  • Learn and participate in all areas of Software Engineering Process including design and innovation of new software specifications, implementation, testing, and release cycle.
  • Properly document, track, and test work.
  • Follow quality standards with regard to coding, commenting, unit testing, debugging, documenting, releasing, and versioning code.
  • Provide internal support to determine and resolve software quality problems in existing software products.
  • Participate in the development of new departmental processes that improve our ability to develop software to established quality levels, including source code control, configuration management, software releases.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or other scientific discipline
  • Up to 5 years’ experience working on group programming projects
  • Programming skills: SQL, Scripting, Java or Object-Oriented Programming Language
  • Knowledge of SQL and databases – Postgres and/or Oracle
  • Graphic Information Systems (GIS) experience/knowledge – Preferred
  • Knowledge of GIT and BitBucket – Preferred
