Job Description

Eaton’s Bussmann Division is currently seeking a Lead Test Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Ellisville, MO site.

Position Overview:

The Lead Test Engineer will provide leadership and support to the Bussmann Division’s Gubany Center High Power Laboratory. This laboratory is a unique test facility that provides high power (up to 1000V, 300kA) testing to ensure the robustness of various circuit protection products. The Lead Test Engineer will be accountable for the ongoing functionality of the test lab and will provide support for laboratory operations and a team of electrical technicians and test station operators to improve safety, productivity, and on-time metrics. Under the supervision of the lab supervisor, the lab will continue to provide laboratory services through safe, reliable and timely test execution, enabling rapid response to growth opportunities, cost-saving solutions, and product maintenance. This role will also provide support for the existing low-voltage and surge testing facilities and redeployment of existing lab space to support increased digitization and IoT connectivity of our product offerings.

In this function you will:

  • Drives a safety first culture in the labs and site through continual assessments, investments and improvements to meet Eaton’s MESH requirements.
  • Supports tests on electrical power distribution apparatus involving high voltage, high current surge, or high power testing. This includes project definition, work breakdown, and scheduling. Executes project planned activities as well as adjusting to unplanned circumstances.
  • Delivers, through self and team, laboratory expertise and capabilities that meet the needs of current customer testing requirements, as well as, the ever changing landscape of new technologies and segments
  • Reviews test methods required by standards and develops procedures as needed to provide repeatable test practices. Incorporates changes to improve safety, quality, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Designs test circuits including test instrumentation and control. Evaluates test results, and writes reports.
  • Support partnerships with both internal and external customers by fulfilling their needs through test program execution, technical demonstrations, training opportunities, and operational enhancements.
  • Maintains Gubany Center motor-generator system, test equipment, processes, procedures and instrumentation, minimizing potential impacts to testing and test equipment, and ensuring compliance with IEC/ISO 17025.
  • Supports and develops a team of skilled electrical technicians per the terms of the union contract.
  • Coordinates maintenance schedules in all test cells and laboratories, promoting prompt services for the critical testing programs within the business
  • Implement laboratory best practices to provide consistent and accurate test results for growth, product maintenance, and cost saving development programs

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with electrical engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years in a testing or field service environment
  • Experience in testing techniques and experience with generators/power generation(rotating) experience, test equipment and measurement instrumentation.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Ellisville, MO will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working within a quality management system
  • Digital experience with machine maintenance
  • Competency in MS Windows and Office environment required.

Position Criteria:

  • Ability to travel up to 10%
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Support of the sites MESH safety program through service as an element champion is required.
