The Latin America Business Operations team sits within Global Accounting and Product Services (GAAPS), one of the essential functions within the Technology & Operations group at BlackRock. Our remit includes product oversight and client service, related to the locally offered solutions across the region, including Separately Managed Accounts, ETFs, Alternatives and Mutual Funds.

The Fund Accounting Oversight (FAO) team based in Mexico City, is responsible for the control and ownership of the accounting, taxes and reporting processes associated with the Mexican Mutual Funds, in accordance with the normative framework; as well as the supervision of the different services providers like Fund Accounting Provider, Official Appraisal, Price Provider, Custodian and others.

Role Responsibility

  • Understand product and portfolio solutions offered to clients, legal and regulatory framework, along with the operating model and execution of the portfolio management lifecycle
  • Partner with Global & Local Business teams to provide local expertise to support different mutual funds events like creation, merges, termination and repurposes.
  • Build partnerships with external ecosystem by interacting with regulators, fund accounting providers, custodians, price vendors, distributors and others involved in the lifecycle of a mutual fund.
  • Provide derivatives, Sec Lending, and structure notes expertise (from the tax, accounting, and operational perspective), supporting the implementation of these instruments by the business.
  • Automate all manual processes using RPA tools (Coding skills is a must)
  • Ensure that all the processes executed by external provider have been done accurately
  • Mutual fund tax oversight, including all related to tax prices, tax factors and tax payments, as well as the tax declaration before the tax authority (SAT).
  • Maintain a risk-controlled environment framed under Mexican regulation together with our key service providers, minimizing the operational events.
  • Consistently perform risk assessments and drive improvements to existing controls and procedures.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required in computer science, accounting, business management, finance, economics or equivalent.
  • Ideal candidate will have proven experience of 2+ years in the financial industry, with knowledge of capital markets and the ecosystem of regulators and market participants.
  • Robust experience, ideally, in operations (middle office, back office), fund administration functions or product management.
  • Highly computer-literate, with advanced Microsoft Office skills and coding skills.

In addition, we are looking for the following qualifications:

  • Fluency (written and oral) in both English and Spanish required.
  • Additionally, candidate should be able to flourish in an extremely fast-paced and growing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Coding background and knowledge of RPA tools.
  • Experience with investment management, investment operations, mutual funds accounting/reporting, mutual funds tax management.
  • Knowledge of Mexican regulation for mutual funds.
  • Knowledge of different financial instruments like fixed income, equities, and derivatives
  • Robust data analysis and data visualization skills are required.
  • Candidates should have a keen eye for opportunities to create efficiency, and a track record of executing these improvements and attention to detail.
