The Commodities team of the Macro group within Corporate and Investment Banking is seeking a first year Analyst to join in the Houston, TX office.

Within Corporate & Investment Banking, the Macro Group is responsible for the sales and trading platform for rates, FX, commodities and CVA. Under this group, the Commodities team helps Wells Fargo clients manage exposures to energy, metals, and agricultural products through the structuring of hedging strategies and commodity linked finance. Our integrated trading team provides best in-class commodity risk management products, execution and customer service for Wells Fargo’s clients.

A Commodity Trading Analyst is expected to partner closely with senior commodity traders, commodity marketers, and support partners to provide comprehensive risk management services to Wells Fargo’s clients. The position will be required to support/manage daily business of trading, risk management, modeling, and market-making. Candidates will be mentored by senior traders in the trading and management of portfolios of financial and physical swaps, futures, options, and other derivatives, as well as fundamental analysis, the art of market making, and game theoretical aspects of market behavior.

Specifically, this individual will be responsible for assisting in the booking and management of the desk’s daily trades, as well as working with the senior traders in pricing, executing, and hedging the risk positions from derivative transactions with our clients. They will provide analytical support for senior traders and marketers. They will handle transactions covering a wide variety of issuers, types, volumes, and complexity with accuracy and a sense of urgency. The analyst will be responsible for building and utilizing risk management tools to monitor trading, positions, and risk. Also, the analyst will assume responsibilities in identifying market trends, and preparing research and strategy reports to support the trading desk.

They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following and adhering to applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.


Required Qualifications

  • 1+ year of financial services industry experience; or a BS/BA degree or higher obtained prior to program start date

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills


Other Desired Qualifications

• Hire is subject to NFA proficiency exam within 30 days of start date.
• Direct experience within the commodities product industry is preferred.
• Strong understanding of derivative theories, such as Black Scholes, is preferred.
• Experience in programming, such as Python and VBA, is preferred.
