Who You'll Work With

You will be based in our Waltham office as part of McKinsey's Technology & Digital (T&D) organization. You will be a core member of both the product design function and the ClienTech Data & Analytics (D&A) group. The D&A Group provides and develops analytics tooling and infrastructure for our colleagues with products and services ranging from BI tools and Cloud Analytics labs.Our user researchers work closely in teams alongside experts in various disciplines - product managers, designers, other researchers, engineers, analysts and others - and together, the team relentlessly strives to deliver outcomes that matter to people.

What You'll Do

You will act as a key contributor for user researcher and implementation as well as help drive design thinking throughout the group.In this role, you will focus on products designed to enable data driven decisions and deliver insights into what will create a highly engaging and intuitive user experience, helping ensure those products effectively engage users and help them achieve their goals. You will take part in product development, product strategy, user research, service design, site metrics and end to end service design to make the experience of dealing with data and analytics and enjoyable and simple. You will help advocate for a diverse range of users and focus on user outcomes within the complex and rapidly changing data and analytics landscape. You will collaborate closely with product managers, developers and other specialists to identify what will be most critical to the success of a product, what it should feel like to interact with a product or service across multiple touchpoints and to define how we bring that experience into reality. You will also actively look for opportunities to apply new tools and technologies that can help enrich the capabilities the firm provides to our colleagues to do their work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in interaction design, cognitive science, HCI, anthropology, psychology or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of experience in planning, conducting and communicating the findings from user research for digital products and services
  • Experience planning and conducting both quantitative and qualitative user research at all stages of product development
  • Strong ability to frame key questions, create research plans to address those, conduct research and synthesize the findings into meaningful, actionable insights
  • Ability to design and conduct user testing and concept validation (e.g. identify potential solution options for a stated user need and design experiments that help elicit the most viable solution for users)
  • Deep knowledge of an array of research methodologies
  • Strong understanding of digital product lifecycle
  • Comfort working with designers, technical and business teams
