Reuters is looking for a seasoned Editor-in-Charge to lead its Latin America News Hub in Mexico City.

The Hub is dedicated to produce real-time company news alerts and briefs in English for the region from different sources in Spanish and Portuguese.

The EIC will coordinate a team in our growing Mexico operation and take quick decisions that will shape our corporate coverage. Speed is core to the operation.

The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with excellent people skills, impeccable corporate news judgment and a track record of helping promising staff to fulfill their potential.

The editor will partner with the leadership team in Latin America to enhance the overall quality of the file.

Reuters news and information reaches one billion people every day. Trading desks, hedge funds and asset managers at major multinational banks rely on Reuters to get fast and accurate information. Your stories for Reuters will also be seen by hundreds of media clients, on Reuters.com and other extensions.

About the role:

As our EIC, Latam News Hub, you will:

  • Lead a diverse and growing team
  • Apply news judgement and give overall direction to the company news coverage so that the file meets customer needs and performance standards
  • Ensure we publish news alerts and urgent stories clearly, accurately and quickly to deliver the news first to our subscribers
  • Work under pressure in a very fast-paced environment
  • Help to drive innovation and generate smart ideas
  • Deliver strong team performance in a positive environment
  • Take an active interest in training new staff and continuous coaching

To be our Headline News Reporter, you will have:

  • At least 10 years’ experience in journalism with proven excellence in news judgment, reporting, writing and editing. Experience in a real-time news service an advantage
  • Excellent command of English and Spanish or Portuguese
  • Ability to lead teams, juggle multiple priorities and work across borders
  • Excellent people skills, confidence communicating with editors and bureaus and ability to coach and mentor staff
  • Talent at generating ideas, cool head under pressure
