Credit Cards, Retail and Merchant Services Technology (CRMST) is a technology arm of Consumer Lending Technology (CLT) that executes the Wells Fargo Technology strategy and offers a strategic technology perspective to Credit Card and Retail businesses. Our teams provide technology solutions to the businesses and manage the application portfolios through the skills, stability, security, scalability, speed, and satisfaction as enablers.

The data Principal Engineer/Modeler/Architect will be responsible for creating and maintaining conceptual, logical and physical data models and will be creating one or more data models depending on use cases including transactional, integration, operational data store and analytical systems.

Job Duties include but not limited to:
• The candidate will have to work with the business team, comprising of stakeholders and analysts, and information technologists to understand data requirements for the program.
• Perform data profiling/analysis activities that will help establish, modify, and maintain a data model.
• Create conceptual data model to identify key business entities and visualize their relationships.
• Create detailed logical models identifying all the entities, attributes and their relationships along with the characteristics associated with each of those.
• Convert logical models to physical models for the databases in use and provide DDLs to the implementation teams.
• Create a taxonomy/data dictionary to communicate data requirements that are important to business stakeholders.
• Test the DDLs and ensure the models are deployed to all environments and are consistent.
• Lead and participate in design workshops to facilitate an understanding of business data needs and how they are mapped to the data model.
• Facilitate resolution of model conflicts created by competing business requirements.
• Partition data models into landing, integration, data store, and reporting layers. Support review, sign-off and adoption of data models in collaboration with business, architecture, and delivery teams.
• Articulate modelling principles to other modelers and business users.

This position can be based at the Wells Fargo site location in Chandler/Phoenix (AZ), Philadelphia (PA), Irving/Dallas (TX).

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of engineering experience; or 10+ years of experience in a technical management role
  • 10+ years of experience in data management, data modeling, metadata management, master-data management and data movement
  • 7+ years of development and implementation experience with applications, databases, or a combination of both
  • 7+ years of experience analyzing requirements and designing new solutions for application and database components
  • 7+ years of database design
  • 1+ year of experience with in-memory databases such as Redis, MongoDB, or Cassandra
  • 1+ years of experience with encryption/decryption and transfer of data


Desired Qualifications

  • A Masters degree or higher in computer science or finance
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience with FDR and related Credit Card data and processes
  • Ability to manage complex data collection and analysis activities including conducting extensive source-to-target mapping exercises
  • Knowledge and understanding of complex enterprise systems and frameworks including frontends, middleware, services layer, database, backend and downstream interfaces
  • Knowledge and understanding of creation of sequence diagrams and web service level data mapping


Other Desired Qualifications
  • 5+ years of RESTful or SOAP web services
  • 4+ years of JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) development experience
  • 3+ years of technical and business architecture experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of public and private cloud integration with AWS, IAAS, Asure or Google
  • Experience with Agile Scrum (Daily Standup, Sprint Planning and Sprint Retrospective meetings) and Kanban
  • Experience applying new technologies to business needs in a technologically innovative , change-driven organization
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Knowledge and understanding of all phases of project development and testing lifecycle
  • Ability to work effectively, as well as independently, in a team environment
  • Ability to mentor and train less senior staff
  • 3 + years of experience developing Single Page Architecture (SPA) web application using ASP.NET MVC, Knockout, Javascript, or JQuery, or with frameworks such as Angular.JS or HTML 5
  • Knowledge and understanding of test driven application development
  • Experience with one or more Agile tools used for tracking user stories or backlogs, such as VersionOne and JIRA
  • 7 + years of experience gathering, analyzing and interpreting large datasets
  • 5+ years of data security experience
  • 5+ years of experience performing data profiling
  • 4+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: data management, metrics & business intelligence, data warehouse
