About this role

BlackRock has an opportunity for a qualified candidate to join the Infrastructure Investment team within BlackRock Infrastructure Investment Group as an Associate based in Mexico City.

BlackRock Infrastructure is a fast growing business unit within BlackRock’s Alternatives Business offering primarily institutional clients access to Equity and Debt Infrastructure investments.

The Infrastructure Investment team in Latin America is responsible for creating and investing private infrastructure portfolios through direct investments and co-investments in Latin America with a focus on Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Chile.

Job Purpose/Background:

The role will have responsibility for assisting the deal team in project and financial modeling, deal assessment and execution, market research, general analytics and relative value analysis. Additionally, the role will also assist in preparing presentations and pitch books, cash flow analysis, researching, report writing and documentation review and negotiation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial modeling: primary responsibility for running and developing three-statement financial models in order to analyze greenfield / acquisition project opportunities with guidance from the transaction team.
  • Gather, organize and analyze data from numerous sources to generate financial models and analysis for underwriting and investment structuring and control.
  • Conduct sensitivity, project financing, capital structuring and returns analysis. Update project development budgets and financial models as needed.
  • Deal assessment and execution: working with the team to assess and execute project investments. This will include conducting due diligence, financial review, risk assessment, preparation of presentation materials for investment committee, documentation review and negotiation, relative value analysis, etc.
  • Industry and Market research: including research on potential investments, policy, competitors, technology, comparable transactions, tracking competing deals in the market, etc.
  • Portfolio monitoring: assist in the monitoring of investments in the portfolio
  • Asset management: Includes follow up activities, financial and operational analysis and reporting to assure that the Fund ́s objectives are met.
  • Team player. Responsible for developing and maintaining close relationship with other areas within the Company

Knowledge/Experience:

Candidates will have experience in infrastructure financing. To be effective in the role, candidates should have the following background and experience:

  • Highly proficient with demonstrable financial modeling and evaluation skills. In particular, a good understanding of cash flow modeling is important
  • Highly proficient verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively prepare presentations, memos and other documents in a clear and concise manner
  • Familiarity with project finance structuring and documentation, including construction arrangements and contracts, and off-take / concession contracts
  • Able to manage workload effectively and deliver quality work on schedule
  • A keen interest in infrastructure investment
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to working in a friendly, entrepreneurial, team environment
  • Demonstrated research, analytical, and presentation-drafting skills

Skills/Qualifications:

  • English and Spanish fluency is required
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, finance, economics, actuarial sciences, BA/accounting, mathematics/statistics, or a related field; strong academic background
  • CFA, MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in Project Finance / Infrastructure
  • Possess a strong analytical background
  • Strong proficiency building and proofing financial models
  • Solid quantitative skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Detail oriented and robust organizational skills
  • Understanding of basic commercial loan terms and programs, as well as overall capital structuring
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
