We are seeking a Principal IS Engineer PSJH to provide both expertise in design and implementation of internal and business solutions as well as technical advice and guidance. The Principal Engineer provides guidance on Engineering strategy and direction and collaborates with leadership to determine and guide evolution of Information Systems. In addition, the Principal Engineer drives large initiatives and projects to successful completion and takes accountability for the success of Engineering efforts overall.

The Principal Engineer is a recognized leader in the Information Services having a scope of influence at the organizational level and is a key contributor to the strategy and roadmap for the department. The Principal Engineer organizes and manages large and long-term projects and initiatives which may span entire organization and clarifies the roles and expectations as part of integrating the concerns and efforts of all stakeholders and team members. As a recognized leader in Information Services for technical vision, direction, and guidance, the successful candidate delivers recognized value consistently to the leadership team and has significant impact on the business of the organization. The Principal Engineer is also required to be a leader in increasing the technical capabilities and quality while lowering costs.

As a leader in the Information Service organization, the Principal Engineer provides consistent and effective communication to leadership and with teams throughout the organization. The successful candidate should be comfortable presenting technical strategy, roadmap, and information to large groups and to all levels of management as well as providing training and information to the organization's caregivers as needed.

The Principal Engineer is required to have advanced analytical skills and expert-level skills in several areas of technology. This role requires a broad knowledge of technology and software development in addition to areas of expertise. The successful candidate has advanced knowledge of architecture, systems design, and distributed design and is capable of enterprise and solution level architecture and design. The successful candidate has experience building solutions involving one or more of the major cloud service providers. Also, a Principal Engineer must have intermediate to advanced programming skills in at least two languages.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working in an Agile development environment with geographically distributed teams.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide architecture and design services to specify solutions that meet or exceed requirements. Create architecture and design artifacts as required and review with Enterprise Architecture, Security, Engineering, Networking, Monitoring, and other teams as needed.
  • Provide technical vision, direction, and guidance on Engineering strategy and direction to leadership team. Contribute to the departmental strategy plans and roadmaps.
  • Deliver software programs, scripts, configuration files, and other programming artifacts as needed to implement solutions.
  • Provide training and mentoring to other team members on architecture, design, and coding skills and best practices.
  • Provide leadership and technical management of solutioning efforts including large initiatives and projects. Ensure that all participants involved in such efforts have clarity of role and expectations in effort.
  • Research and investigate new capabilities of cloud services and other technologies. Provide timely insight and advice to leadership team to permit the leveraging of these technologies in future plans.
  • Assist in gathering, clarifying, and documenting requirements of solutions. Work collaboratively with architects and other engineers to determine potential gaps and alternative solutions.
  • Ensure that architecture and design proposed by Engineering is in alignment with the organization's standards and policies.
  • Collaboratively develop technical roadmap for Information Services organization.
  • Provide assistance with troubleshooting issues escalated to engineering including on-call assistance for top priority incidents.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or equivalent education/experience.
  • 8 years in senior solutions architect or senior software developer role.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 3 years' experience with Citrix technologies (Virtual App, Virtual Desktop, NetScaler)
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or equivalent education/experience.
  • Certified Developer or Certified Architect of a major cloud service.
  • 2 years' experience with Cloud Providers (Azure, AWS)
  • 2 years' experience as Agile team member or coordinator.
