Reuters is looking for an experienced and energetic journalist with outstanding news judgement and technological savvy to drive our breaking news coverage from China at a historic time in the country’s development. This is an action-packed leadership role, with unique challenges and rewards, on one of the world’s biggest and most complex stories.
The successful candidate will lead a team of journalists generating breaking news coverage across a full range of topics. Based in Beijing, the China Breaking News Editor will drive event coverage planning and monitoring of a wide array of sources, generating coverage across the story cycle, from news alerts and our first quick-hit stories on breaking news, to bigger updates on the top stories of the day.
About the Role
As our China Breaking News Editor , you will:
• Lead a team of journalists handling breaking news from a wide range of sources
• Ensure we are delivering fast and accurate headlines and updates
• Plan coverage of events and prepare for the unexpected
• Work with reporters across multiple disciplines
• Work with the Asia speed editor and technology colleagues to maximize speed and efficiency
To be our China Breaking News Editor , you will likely have:
• Extensive journalism experience across a range of subjects
• Outstanding news judgement
• Strong people and communication skills
• Technological savvy and a knack for problem-solving
• Skill with social media newsgathering and monitoring
• Mandarin Chinese (a strong advantage but not a requirement)
