The Head of Global Payment Optimization leads a team of payments experts who are responsible for making sure we deliver excellence via partners for our merchant offering on an ongoing basis. This team’s work enables PayPal to identify new value-add opportunities for existing clients, and to build and deliver on those opportunities in partnership with Sales, Account Management, Product and Support. This team’s work also supports go-forward solution selling efforts to new prospective merchants by deepening our understanding of target merchants and delivering pitches of best fit. The Head of Global Payment Optimization will report directly into the Vice President and Head of Business Development & Strategy for Enterprise Platform Growth, who also oversees PayPal for Marketplaces and PayPal Payouts, which are both part of PayPal’s Enterprise Platform and are designed to position PayPal as the world’s best payments and commerce partner for merchants globally in 50+ countries by creating next-generation ideas that expand the value of our platform and enable seamless execution of initiatives that translate to onboarding new merchants. PayPal for Marketplaces provides payment solutions for businesses accepting and disbursing funds between consumers and businesses, enabling business growth with fees, holds, disbursements, onboarding and more. PayPal for Marketplaces serves as the payment solution for businesses bringing together buyers and sellers of products & services with specific needs to add commissions, fees, holds and multi-seller disbursements and is also designed to solve for the unique payment needs of online fundraising sites to earn commissions, offer tip-ups or apply holds and disbursements. PayPal Payouts help organizations send mass payments to contract workers, claimants, freelancers, and sellers around the world by leveraging Hyperwallet’s full stack technology to send commissions, rewards, claims, and rebates quickly and securely to banked and unbanked payees globally. The Head of Global Payment Optimization will be the driver of long-term strategy work around payment enterprise platform (build, partners, invest, acquirer). This is a global leadership role responsible for interfacing with PayPal org/offices and our clients and partners. This leader will also oversee a team that serves as our thought leadership facing group for enterprise merchants (direct merchant communication, conferences, media, partners, webinars etc.). This leader will have direct involvement in most global enterprise clients on an ongoing basis, and other sales teams will call on this team for support and expert advice for closing deals with very large enterprise merchants. This leader will also be a key contributor to training and education in areas such as payments and the broader commerce ecosystem for rest of organization. Moreover, this leader will partner with Product and Engineering, Finance, Support, Global Sales, GA, and Account Management teams and leverage external partnerships that are built over time to deliver for our business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads a team which is responsible for the business and strategy direction of key strategic initiatives to expand our platform capabilities and making sure we help Sales and Accounts winning/expanding more relationships on a global level.
  • Partnership development for new markets and payment processing partnerships across the world.
  • The Client Success team: a highly specialized team focusing on working with our largest clients to proactively drive higher performance together across key metrics such as authorization rates, chargeback management, conversion and more.
  • All card network relationships (driving and expanding our partnerships with Visa/MC etc.)
  • Payments experts for new strategic initiatives, currently this includes things such as Network Tokenization, Local Payment Method expansion and Omnichannel to mention just a few.
  • Regulator engagement when needed.
  • Day to day performance of our platform when it comes to partnership dependency, key payment expert for the broader organization across several areas such as Regulations, compliance, Legal, Scheme rules, Sales, Account management, Product Marketing and more.
  • Payment and Market Strategy: development and execution
  • European market expansion: Open banking. Global Acquiring Program, SRC/PSD2 etc.
  • Responsible for the daily delivery the output from our payment sponsorships across all current and planned markets as well as strategic payment partners (for such things as 3D Secure, etc.).
  • Ensuring the largest clients are leveraging our platform to the best of their ability to make sure we get as much of their processing volume as possible
  • Team includes payments and business partnership management, payments engineers and business analysts as well as various experts in their field.

Requisite Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience managing an Enterprise Sales function for a global firm.
  • Experience managing teams of Account Executives that sell innovative payments solutions.
  • Experience managing teams of Account Executives that sell to large enterprise merchants.
  • Experience closing large complex partnerships and / or enterprise transactions.
  • Deep understanding of complex sales cycles in a highly regulated domain.
  • A healthy consumer-focused obsession with a high sense of urgency and a “get things done” action orientation.
  • Ability to propose creative solutions to meet customer requirements.
  • History of success building sales teams at fast-growing companies, preferably in the FinTech space.
  • Growth mindset with a strong desire to collaborate.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to lead through influence in addition to through authority.
  • A personal alignment to PayPal’s mission.
