Senior Financial Analyst, Payments

Finance Team | Location: Santa Clara, Ca

Identify industry best practices for payments strategies; research and develop the best credit/debit card retry policy. Identify the optimal retry time and retry number to maximize success rate and revenue. Find out opportunities to improve success rate for international countries.

Develop and maintain a forecasting model to accurately forecast payment success rates. Conduct variance analysis to account for discrepancies and the financial impact. Gather relevant information from the database using SQL or equivalent query language, identify patterns/trends, and explain them by developing a hypothesis testable through A/B or multivariate split testing. Ensure A/B tests are set up correctly to reach statistical significance. Keep track of performance after the rollout to evaluate the impact for stakeholders.

Develop templates, analyses, models, dashboards in a scalable manner. Use Tableau or equivalent business intelligence tools to build dashboards for the key stakeholders to access all the information they need to develop various financial planning models.

Build financial models to quantify the impact of certain payment initiatives (e.g. new credit card retry strategy) or payments parameters (e.g. success rates, card type mix, traffic mix) on the company’s financial statements and assess their feasibility.

Closely monitor results and re-calibrate parameters as needed. Understand, document, define and monitor how the payment processing success rates are functioning by analyzing trends, deep dive into the data as necessary to identify enhancement opportunities, and make recommendations as needed.

Find glitches in the financial system and dashboards and resolve or escalate them (e.g. find out the distribution of the card declines by reason code and identify any anomalies and spikes in the distribution; determine if the declines are caused by the card issuers, the processors, the gateway or internal rules and reach out to both external and internal parties to fix the problem; identify reporting errors in data source and dashboards, work with engineers and business intelligence analysts to resolve the issue).

Analyze historical data on chargebacks based on chargeback reason code, traffic mix, ticket price, credit card type and various other factors to develop predictive analytics techniques and provide improvement recommendations.

Understand various payments related regulations and what limitations they might bring to the business. Come up with strategies to make sure the company complies with all these regulations at minimum cost.

  • Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree in Math, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Statistics, or closely related quantitative discipline plus one (1) year of experience in the job offered or one (1) year of experience in the field of business analysis or Bachelor’s degree in Math, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Statistics, or closely related quantitative discipline plus five (5) years of experience in the job offered or five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of business analysis.
  • Special Skill Requirements: (1) Advanced Excel Modeling; (2) Advanced Tableau or equivalent business intelligence tools; (3) Advanced SQL or equivalent query language. At least one (1) year of experience in the above special skills is required.
