Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Experience within the tech industry and with internet technologies, new media, and the surrounding policy environments.
  • Experience with UK regulatory frameworks relating to content issues.
  • Experience with wider policy landscape and relevant stakeholders.
  • Experience working on content policy issues within government or regulatory agencies.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience building coalitions in support of complex policy ideas which need to reach broad non-specialists audiences.
  • Excellent analytical skills and high attention to detail.
  • Comfortability relating highly technical policy areas to non-specialist colleagues and wider public audiences.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, with a track record of executing cross-functional projects.

About the job

As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a diverse global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You’ll combine creativity and intellectual rigor with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you’ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. You're passionate about the opportunity to shape the future of how we use and build technology for everyone.

As a Government Affairs and Public Policy Manager for Google, you'll have particular responsibility for content policy issues relevant to Google in the UK. You will coordinate with the global Policy team, the UK business and key partners in Legal and PR to execute our policy strategy. You will also help develop our external narrative around Google’s work in the UK, and track various regulatory proposals and analysing their potential impact on Google’s business. Additionally, you'll contribute to helping shape Google's policy efforts relating to content and creative industry issues developing external relationships and coordinating with global policy teammates.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute policy strategy in a way that benefits Google’s users, our business and the wider web.
  • Engage directly with policymakers, industry players and key opinion formers to shape policy and political dialogue on thoughtful, responsible technology policy and the beneficial impact it can have on the UK economy.
  • Work cross-functionally to strengthen the reputation of Google in the UK.
  • Monitor and research current and relevant emerging public policy issues considering how Google should work with allied organizations and industries.
