The Enterprise Data Governance (EDG) team is part of the American Express Data Office, our global data center of excellence responsible for realizing the potential of our data and providing the principles, policies, processes, architecture and governance to enable consistent, trusted and usable data to drive accurate data-driven business outcomes.

We are looking for a dynamic, strategic, and experienced individual for the role of Vice President, Data Architecture. You will lead a high-performing team responsible for defining American Express’ business process architecture and enterprise data model, and partnering across technology and product/platform teams to influence architecture that supports data governance and management, and drives consistency and usability of our data assets across the enterprise.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner across Amex Technologies, product/platform teams and data management teams to influence architecture that accelerates management and governance of data now and as part of new and modernized system development.
  • Advance development and usage of defined business process architecture, including a centralized view of enterprise end-to-end business processes, to support EDG and Amex business and risk processes.
  • Develop and maintain an enterprise conceptual data model and taxonomy, partnering with across key Amex teams and Amex Technologies.
  • Collaborate with EDG, Amex Technologies, product/platform teams and data management teams to certify data sources and remediate as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications

A successful candidate will have:

  • Prior experience developing, implementing, and leading large-scale data architecture and data transformation initiatives.
  • Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks, data modeling standards (i.e., conceptual, logical, physical), and metadata management.
  • Understanding of Data Management and Data Governance concepts with the ability to be an advocate for architecture that supports Amex’s governance/management of data.
  • Ability to work and communicate with both business and technical teams at various levels.
  • Proven track record of driving results in a fast-paced environment often with significant ambiguity.
  • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to engage, influence, and encourage partners and stakeholders to drive collaboration and alignment.
  • High degree of organization, individual initiative and personal accountability and resiliency.
  • A track record of leading and encouraging large teams through sophisticated initiatives.
