In 1992, Eli Lilly and Company established the Delivery, Device, and Connected Solutions (DDCS) business for the purpose of creating, developing, launching and refining proprietary delivery device systems. We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Electrical and Embedded Software Engineering leader responsible for engineering activities in the areas of concept development and prototyping, requirements development, architecture and design, patient safety risk management, and testing for Class I, II, and III medical devices.

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Develop and deliver broad electrical hardware solutions across analog circuitry, RF antennas, and digital hardware designs that include signal conditioning, amplifiers, microprocessors, and microcontrollers.
  • Develop and deliver safe and reliable real time, embedded software solutions, reusable/portable code libraries, and low-level device drivers.
  • Conduct and document the full lifecycle hardware and software product development activities for prototypes, high volume commercial products, and test fixtures
  • Manage compliance testing for medical devices through nationally recognized testing laboratories.
  • Engage in project planning activities while supporting the generation of RFPs for vendors and suppliers. Provide engineering oversight of contractors, vendors, and suppliers. Perform detailed, expert technical reviews of internal and external designs.
  • Establish and exercise strategic relationships with academia and start-ups to accelerate product development while identifying and monitoring ground-breaking external technologies
  • Drive continuous process improvements and contribute to defining the strategic direction of the Electrical and Embedded Software Engineering fields at Lilly.
  • May coach and lead a team of engineers; responsible for career and performance development, training, staffing assignments, and eliminating blockers for team members.
  • May lead sophisticated programs serving as the single point of technical accountability for successful delivery of the solution(s).

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) field with 10+ years of working experience

Additional Skills / Preferences:

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering is preferred
  • Broad experience in a highly regulated product development environment
  • 5+ years of progressive hands-on electrical and/or electronics engineering experience and 5+ years experience of embedded software, firmware, and/or embedded systems engineering experience
  • 5+ years of engineering management or engineering functional management experience
  • Demonstrated record of developing intellectual property with a strong knowledge of safety critical, complex electro-mechanical systems
  • Expert knowledge of full software development lifecycle methodologies with strong skills in embedded firmware development using C programming language
  • Expertise in embedded hardware development including schematic and PCB design of microcontroller-based control circuits, design of RF communication, digital and analog circuit design, and Digital Signal Processing
  • Experience in one or more of the following: wireless communication circuits and protocols, ultra-low power embedded systems, cybersecurity, or connected products in health applications
  • Proficiency with laboratory test equipment and ECAD software packages (Altium or similar)
  • Familiar with ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601, IEC 62304, and experience with FDA class II or III medical device regulatory requirements with knowledge of drug product and medical device standards
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across boundaries, and effectively influence without authority to drive organizational culture change
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to effectively interact and influence both business and technical leaders

  • Primary location is at Lilly Technology Center – North, Indianapolis, IN
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
