Job Description
Eaton’s Commercial & Residential Distribution Solutions is currently seeking a Solid-State Breaker Engineering Manager to join our team. This position can be based at one of the following locations: Moon Township, Pennsylvania.
The Solid-State Breaker Engineering Manager works with the broader Connected Solutions Organization to develop connected electronic miniature circuit breakers. The focus of this team is to build upon Eaton’s industry leading electronic breaker platform to launch affordable, communicating, switching and metering circuit breakers. She/he will have overall responsibility for driving state of the art technology including hardware, firmware and system design for intelligent, connected circuit breakers, load centers and interfaces to Solar, Energy Storage, Electric Vehicles and Energy Management Systems. This position will also be accountable for the engineering functions to execute deliverables as needed for the business. This position will work with peers who have responsibility for software applications, cloud interfaces and gateways.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- This position will build and lead a high performing electronics, firmware and hardware team with the ability to identify and utilize the latest in power electronics, switching and metering components along with robust communication platforms for control and data streaming.
- Defines innovative product and technology roadmaps in concert with marketing teams and business leaders. Maintains 5-year strategic product roadmaps for the solid-state electronic miniature circuit breaker platform. Articulates the value proposition to develop differentiated solutions for our customers’ challenges and future needs.
- Keeps current on changing technologies and best practices. Focus on Power Electronics and electronic switching components and external partnerships with suppliers.
- Uses design thinking to understand customer use cases and value propositions that relate to the form, features and cost requirements for new product development.
- Drives design for manufacturability best practices and partners closely with Operations leadership to ensure the smooth introduction of products into production.
- Is responsible for detailed project schedules incorporating resource management, milestone deliverables, and administration of PROLaunch stage gate process for new product development activities. Program managers will report dotted line to this position for overall schedule ownership.
- Provides technical and application assistance to product management, customer technical support team and field sales.
- Assists in the analysis and resolution of quality and field warranty issues for solid state breakers.
- Works with the CRDS business unit engineering leaders, ES Centers of Excellence and other technical leaders to advance innovation and leverage synergies across platforms. Lead the respective engineering resources from Pittsburgh, PA., Santo Domingo, D.R. and Pune, India design centers. Leverage other Eaton engineering centers of excellence and global product teams when appropriate.
- Develops and maintains relationships with standards agencies and industry groups.
- Embeds Eaton’s cybersecurity requirements into connected program developments from inception thru launch and into post-launch on a continual basis
- Mentors, coaches and develops lesser-experienced team members
- Coordinates work with external development partners in specialized areas as needed
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, electronics, or relevant engineering discipline
- Seven (7+) years of experience in electronics and/or firmware engineering leadership assignments
- Authorized to work in the United States without Company sponsorship
Preferred Criteria:
- Master’s Degree or PhD in electrical or electronics engineering.
- Advanced proficiency in power electronics, digital design, best practice firmware and connected components.
- Knowledge of circuit protection standards, testing and design desired, but not required.
- Proficiency in program management methodologies and tools including Agile/Scrum.
- Understands the market, regulatory influences, the competitive landscape and broader context of the business strategy
- Empathizes and actively learns about customer’s needs and how they create value
- Navigates through ambiguity and deals with the paradox of making quality decisions amidst uncertainty.
- Understands risks and puts a plan in place to minimize the situation and learn in the process
- Takes an active role to invest in developing talent to meet the needs of the future business
- Shows a global perspective and cultural awareness to interact with colleagues across geographies and functions and takes an inclusive approach to drive alignment
- Stays current with technology advancements and applications
- Ability to communicate programs to peers and Senior Management...written and verbal.
