Cultivate Learning has an outstanding opportunity for a Graphic Designer.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Multimedia Communications, the Graphic Designer will work collaboratively with a team of designers, media production staff, instructional designers, communication and web specialists, and education-oriented content developers to independently design and develop Cultivate Learning’s products, publicity, and communication materials.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Design and layout for digital media, online learning, virtual training platforms, and print, including curriculum products, publications, brochures, promotional flyers, posters, templates, forms, on-screen overlays, titles, and large-scale graphics for events, while conveying a consistent message and image of Cultivate Learning.
• Create and edit large and complex InDesign documents for presenter guides, one-pages, posters, programs, agendas, magazines, etc.
• Create and use existing PPT templates for training material for multiple products and courses. PPT is the primary tool that is used for training and course development
• Create and update Storyline templates to support online training materials.
• Create and use existing Word templates for one-pages and course development.
• Create graphics including illustrations, diagrams, and charts, while adhering to Cultivate Learning messaging and visual guides.
• Enhance and manipulate photographs, including color correction and photo cut outs.
• Convert complex conceptual information and written material into persuasive, functional, and informative visuals that effectively and simply convey key information.
• Translate concepts into visual representations at meetings and brainstorming sessions.
• Review and edit print and digital material prepared by Cultivate Learning staff for accuracy of information and adherence to design standards.
• Develop multimedia graphics for video post-production and screen overlays.
• Ensure that print and digital content meets established communication, branding, and accessibility guidelines (i.e., 508-compliancy).
• Evaluate creative work being developed for Cultivate Learning, offering recommendations for improving quality, consistency, and usability.
• Stay current on the latest trends, issues, and advances in print and multimedia design. Learn and apply new methods, processes, and technologies as required.
• Aide with Cultivate Learning website, UX, and web development support, including a higher level of design and attention to detail that both these websites need in order to remain relevant, up to date, and useful for our multitude of audiences.
• Gathering web analytics, web interactivity, user experience research, and seamless interface design for back end systems like the EarlyEdU Alliance portal, Coaching Companion, and WebDAM libraries.
• Participate in the conception and production of the design, information architecture, layout, and front-end development of Cultivate Learning websites (including EarlyEdU Alliance website and maintaining the HSCI site).
• Ensure quality and user-satisfaction for all websites through user testing and data driven design decisions.
• Facilitate a content-management process to ensure that all website content is current and routine maintenance is more efficient.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communication, information design, communication, or a similar field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working on a design team.
• Exceptional visual design and creative skills.
• Demonstrated ability to create press ready print files.
• Strong understanding of design principles for presentation design.
• Demonstrated experience with the Adobe CS (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.).
• Ability to design documents in Microsoft Office applications with an emphasis on Power Point and Word.
• Experience building templates and interactives in Storyline.
• Familiarity with WordPress back end.
• Experience working directly with content developers on design implementation.
• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as an individual contributor and member of multiple internal and external teams and organizations.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in design processes
• Ability to take initiative, set priorities, handle multiple projects and exercise good judgment in a fast paced, dynamic and deadline-driven environment in an organized and professional manner.
• Ability to think strategically, problem solve, and suggest creative solutions in line with Cultivate Learning objectives.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to convey creative ideas clearly via email and video.
• Web portfolio
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
DESIRED:
• Proven typography expertise
• Accuracy with high volume of edits and template work
• Familiarity with higher education course development
• Experience in a higher education setting
• Familiarity with early learning in Washington State and/or nationally
