Senior Director, Communications & Culture

That’s why the Global Communications & Corporate Brand team is looking for the ultimate rock star leader for the role of Senior Director Communications & Culture dedicated to our Platform & Marketplaces (P&M) Division.

This daring leader will motivate a team of both direct reports and matrixed resources across P&M to develop and implement communication strategies for all areas of communications related to the P&M division, including developer-focused external communications, internal / employee communications, identity and branding as well as education and awareness for P&M products and tools. You will interact regularly with the senior-most P&M leaders and other senior leaders throughout the company.

By providing a bridge between the entire Expedia Group ecosystem and the P&M team, you will drive compelling and relevant story-telling based content that builds connections to overall company strategy and success. What you’ll do:

  • Work with a high performing global team of communications professionals, ensuring close collaboration within the team, across the broader communications organization, and across Expedia Group as a whole
  • Design and lead comprehensive communications programs that build an authentic and open two-way dialog with stakeholders reflecting our vision and thought leadership, business strategy and organizational leadership values.
  • Incorporate innovative communications solutions to improve P&M awareness, understanding, ownership, engagement and advocacy of Expedia Group’s mission and goals and how it connects to our division’s priorities, values, products, and tools.
  • Provide stewardship for development of engaging communications across all content mediums and forms, including executive communications support.
  • Lead and influence story content, with an emphasis on business results, innovation, community, and culture, including oversight of an editorial calendar for communications engagement.
  • Oversee engagement at key events, including crafting and creating content, partnering with event teams when appropriate, and collaborating with other stakeholders.
  • Navigate and lead communications efforts during change, crisis and issue management in a dynamic organization and industry.
  • Lead development of strong, collaborative relationships with the People Team, employee engagement, inclusion and diversity, other communication and learning and development teams to drive building a strong divisional culture tied to the Expedia Group ethos.
  • Through close collaboration with your employee-centric teammates and the broader organization, set tech-related employee communications priorities for the company to drive the desired employee experience across multiple digital and real-world channels
  • Act as liaison with other communicators and business partners within Expedia Group.

Who you are:

  • Strong leadership and management experience across multiple organizational teams and communications functions within a global organization
  • Ability to quickly build rapport / trust throughout Expedia Group and provide sound counsel on all communications matters.
  • Proven experience in managing complexity, ambiguity and change in a fast-paced environment with a bias toward action to help create structure and understanding for all relevant stakeholders.
  • Exceptional team building and interpersonal skills – including the ability to represent Expedia Group’s business at the highest levels internally and externally
  • Demonstrated ability and comfort with balancing complex strategic work with day-to-day execution and operations.
  • Extraordinary communicator with a knack for fostering positive relationships with people in different disciplines and at different levels and A+ writing skills, visual storytelling skills, and presentation skills.
  • Enthusiasm, creativity, and passion for communicating and sharing narratives, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent communications skills (across multiple venues and stakeholders) and ability to present complex information in a clear, concise, approachable, and thoughtful manner.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the communications discipline, practices, and techniques, including strong working knowledge of communications platforms, channels and creative content generation.
  • Comfortable with a dynamic working environment and tight deadlines
  • Ability to manage changing requirements as well as multiple overlapping projects at one time and to help the team organize themselves to do so as well
  • Strong understanding of how to leverage digital tools for effective content creation and influence

Experience

  • 10+ years proven experience in employee communications with some tech PR experience in either a corporate or agency environment
  • 5+ years of experience required in executive or leadership roles in the e-commerce or travel industry, particularly in highly innovative fast-moving environments, with a demonstrated record of results
  • 5+ years of experience required working directly in the employee-facing communications space
  • Media spokesperson experience helpful, though not required
