What you’ll do as a Senior Web Application Developer at Akuna:

Akuna is seeking Senior Web Application Developers with experience in building web applications using JavaScript, TypeScript, and the React libraries to join our innovative and growing User Experience and User Interface Design and Development team. In this role, you will work directly with traders, quants, and other software developers to design, build, test, and maintain real-time trading, data visualization, system monitoring, and workflow support applications. The applications you build will aid traders in understanding market conditions, assessing risk, and managing other components in our system. Applications will also empower user workflows across the environment, and seamlessly integrate on the user desktop with existing .NET application suites. Performance is key and we’re always looking for more efficient and innovative ways to view the markets.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with the latest web application technologies and in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. Familiarity with .NET framework application development is a benefit, but not a requirement for this role. A successful candidate is performance-minded and seeks to question and enhance current architecture beyond their responsibilities.
This person will be given a unique level of exposure to an industry-leading team of options traders who participate fully in the design and ongoing enhancements to our proprietary trading platform. In this role, you will:

• Translate application storyboards and use cases into functional applications
• Plan, design, and develop high-quality web applications leveraging React.JS, JavaScript, and Typescript, targeting the desktop, tablets, and mobile
• Propose and deliver scalability and performance enhancements to our GUIs
• Research and incorporate the latest features of libraries, frameworks, and JavaScript specification enhancements into our applications
• Engage with traders and developers to gain business knowledge and drive workflow specific solutions
• Build software using Agile methodologies
• Participate in design sessions and code reviews
• Work in tandem with the .NET client development team to develop APIs
• Help maintain code quality, organization, and automatization
• Work on cross-functional teams

Qualities that make great candidates:

• BS/MS/Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Physics or related field
• Strong knowledge of web application development, with 5+ years of professional experience in developing front-end applications
• Proficient with JavaScript or Typescript, with a strong knowledge of their ecosystems
• Willingness to gain exposure to other layers of the front-end stack (Design, API Development)
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and programming with functional tendencies
• Skill for writing reusable libraries
• Exposure to Python development for web applications is a plus
• Familiar with various design and architecture patterns
• Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
• Experience in creating web applications with React.JS or Angular is strongly desired
• Familiarity with Progressive Web Applications, Electron, and other supported manners to release applications to the user desktop is strongly preferred
• A knack for writing clean, readable, and easily maintainable code
• Understanding of fundamental design principles for building a scalable application
• Experience with code versioning tools such as Git
• Familiarity with multi-tier system architectures and microservices
• Exposure to the unit test setup and execution
• Prior work in building cloud-native, scalable software systems is desired (Docker, Kubernetes, etc)
• Awareness of .NET application development is a plus
• Prior experience within the Options Trading or other FinTech industries is a plus
• An interest in user-focused design and user interface development
• Ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment
• A desire for mentoring junior members of the team preferred
