Join us as a Principal Opto-Mechanical Engineer, where you will provide architectural and technical leadership to our team across the full life cycle of optical payload development from initial concept design through flight hardware delivery. The position is for an optical systems and technology expert with high proficiency in both opto-mechanical design and opto-electronics to lead engineering teams, guide and mentor junior staff, and as needed take on highly meaningful individual contributor tasks in structural, thermal, and optical design performance optimization to support our growing base of programs. The span of missions we build payloads for includes military and civilian remote sensing, missile defense, and classified programs. The successful applicant should be familiar with a wide range of optical wavelengths, including IR, visible, and UV. Experience with active systems, LWIR/VLWIR and X-ray systems is also advantageous. The ideal candidate will also be skilled across the majority of the payload development lifecycle, including architecture/conception, design, analysis, laboratory experimentation and developmental testing, fabrication, assembly, integration & test, and post-delivery support. You will lead engineering teams and groups on awarded flight programs, bid and proposal (B&P), and contract/internal research and development efforts, and be a part of a select group of our most experienced engineers who advise our leadership on investment opportunities, talent development, supplier development, and customer strategy. You will make a major difference in OPCoE. You should have a consistent track record of high accomplishment, direct experience with electro-optical systems, and be recognized as a technical authority in the field. • Track record of increasingly responsible roles in electro-optical payload and related subsystem development
• Strong proficiency in a range of standard design tools applied to opto-mechanical design from among CREO, NASTRAN/NX, MATLAB, SolidWorks, CATIA, ZEMAX, Python, and/or other relevant assets
• Deep experience with supplier oversight, subcontract Statement of Work development, specification development, parts selection, and/or configuration control
• US citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance
Desired Skills:• 10+ years of proven experience in leadership roles
• In-depth industry or laboratory technical leadership experience with electro-optical systems for space flight programs
• Proposal writing experience to include lead of a major section
• Basis of Estimate, cost estimation experience, to include cost volume/section support on a proposal and/or program baseline establishment
• Program/Project Planning experience, working familiarity with MS-Project or related planning tools
• Current TS/SCI security clearance
