The Analytical Research and Development Mass Spectrometry team is seeking a motivated scientist with technical expertise in mass spectrometry-based protein, oligonucleotides or polysaccharide characterization. More specifically, the ideal candidate will have experience with peptide mapping, intact/reduced mass, Host Cell Protein (HCP), oligonucleotides or polysaccharide analysis by mass spectrometry.

The successful candidate is expected to independently conduct mass spectrometry experiments to support multiple vaccine programs, represent the group in cross functional teams and develop new methods to solve current industry challenges. The work requires documenting experiments in electronic laboratory notebooks, authoring summaries to inform stakeholders, in addition to presenting at seminars and publishing in scientific journals.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support several programs by performing LC-MS assays such as peptide mapping, intact mass, HCP analysis by proteomics or MRM approaches, oligonucleotides or polysaccharide characterization.
  • Represent the mass spectrometry group in project teams.
  • Author analytical procedures, regulatory submission sections, technical reports and scientific presentations.
  • Explore and develop new technologies applicable to our field.
  • Demonstrate effective multitasking, prioritization and problem-solving skills in the planning and execution of experiments.
  • Assist other team members with intact mass analysis and peptide mapping workflows when needed.

Education Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or Biological Sciences with biopharmaceutical industry experience.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Experience conducting protein, oligonucleotides or polysaccharide mass spectrometry and proteomics experiments, including sample preparation, mass spectrometer operation and data analysis.
  • Experience with Thermo and Waters instruments.
  • Familiarity with R programming language for data processing, statistics and visualization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, as demonstrated through high impact scientific publications and presentations.

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Experiences with oligonucleotides or polysaccharide analysis by mass spectrometry.
  • Automation for sample preparation is preferred.
  • Good understanding of vaccine development.
  • Familiarity with electronic laboratory notebook applications and good documentation practices.
