The Analytics & Decision Sciences Team at Santander is focused on utilizing machine learning and our petabytes of data assets to better understand our customers, deepen their relationships, and deliver the future of the retail banking experience. Our data scientists work with key business leaders and decision makers to solve problems by mining, analyzing, and modeling data to provide insights that drive impact. The day to day includes exploratory analysis to understand data structures and relationships, research to refine a methodology, cranking out lightning fast machine learning code to create a model that predicts trends and automates validation, collaborating with cross-functional teams, or visualizing and sharing their results with executives. They are comfortable working with a variety of partners and data (structured, unstructured, streaming) in a shared code repository utilizing multiple programming languages and frameworks to deliver state of the art analytics and models in an agile environment. The team is beyond obsessed with our customers and finance, data science, research, AI, programming, beautiful data visualizations, and innovation.
Summary of Responsibilities:
We are looking for a passionate and innovative individual to partner with our data science and customer experience team this year. You are able to define a business problem and build a solution through data mining, analytics, and modeling in a technical domain area. You are familiar with research methods, data analytics, and statistics. You are fluent in a least one programming language and framework (Python, C++, R, SQL, Julia, Scala). You have built some stunning charts and visualizations in the past that told a very important story. You are empathetic and in tune with what makes the world go around including what drives human behaviors in banking or a related field (healthcare, economics, ecommerce, digital, psychology, life sciences). You love being part of a fast moving team, can incorporate feedback to learn, and communicate with a diverse set of stakeholders. You are organized and able to document what you produce. You are not afraid to ask questions and seek answers in a self-determined manner. You are comfortable with ambiguity. You are committed to making the world a better place and can adhere to our corporate culture and values.
Examples of potential work:Advancing our NLP codebase by testing AI methodologies like BERT or Fast.ai for proof of concept work on unstructured data, Developing a model to predict which transactions are most valuable to individual customers in realtime, Understand the key drivers of customer satisfaction, Optimizing our virtual assistant for Q&A NLU tasks, Predicting digital activation in our new to bank customers, Scraping the web to find organic conversations (good or bad) about Santander and our products, Develop container based model pipelines in MS Azure...etc.
This 2021 Summer Internship is for undergraduate students who have an anticipated graduation date between December 2021 and May 2022.
