About the role:

This role is within the E-commerce team which is responsible for delivery and running of software solutions for the business.

You’ll work across our development teams to ensure that quality is built into everything we do; you’ll be given the chance to get involved from the very beginning of technical development, doing your bit to help ensure that only quality software is deployed into our live systems and is thoroughly tested throughout the software development life cycle.

The Skills:

• Demonstrable experience of using code to build small software applications either through academic learning, home/personal projects or through online learning
• Understanding of technology, able to explain the basic concepts needed to run a software application for an end user and/or basic hardware topology of a computer system
• Understanding and experience of using operating systems especially Linux and Windows
• Good problem solving ability, able to work diligently and logically to solve Low/Medium level difficulty issues
• Strong academic background with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Team player, able to understand/take on small problems and work progressively through them and where needed seek assistance from other engineers
• Willingness to deliver and take on new tasks, where there is a knowledge/skills gap able to make use of multiple resources such as books, workshops, blogs, on the job learning to help bridge that gap
• Strong interest in learning to automate testing using modern tooling and coding languages
• Curious about software development, with a willingness to learn how the process works
• Desire to understand applications under test, able to explore each feature progressively to build overall picture about the quality of the application
• Familiarity with mobile devices such as iPad

The Responsibilities:

In this role you will be guided by senior engineers and team leads to help complete tasks on behalf of the team, you’ll spend time working across multiple functions and carrying out different tasks such as testing, security auditing and general pairing with senior engineers. On the job learning will form a strong part of this role, which will be back with more formal training through online courses, books and internal workshops. You will work within Agile team with a variety of different engineers from specialists in UX to developers, DevOps and Test engineers, being a team player is the key to success in this role.

The Person:

You should be highly motivated, keen and methodical in your work, taking strong hands on approach to completing tasks; you will be willing to take on multiple challenges involved in becoming a test engineer. You should be comfortable working in fast paced environment and able to think through your work in a logical and calm manner.
